A tasty little find in Fort Kochi. Nothing fancy about the rooftop eating area with a few neat and tidy tables with some welcome shade from the sun. Visited twice, first to sample a couple of dishes and then the second to take the cooking course. The chilly chicken came as advertised, tender with a healthy heat to the spice level. A couple of lime soda’s hit the spot in the heat, one with salt and one without. I’d have to have a few more with the salt to acquire a taste for it but when in Rome. I signed up for the Cooking course the next day and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was held down in the restaurants kitchen so I really got the feel for how the food is prepared day in and day out. Top marks for the quality of instruction with time given to take notes and ask questions. It was a treat to watch the process of cooking the dishes from start to finish. Sitting down to eat them was an event in itself as I was the lone student and there were four dishes to plow through. As a bonus we made a vegetarian curry that was outstanding, me being a confirmed meat eater. All in all, a flavourful and informative time with Mary and her sister. I highly recommend this spot.
As an aside, I’d also recommend that Martin work to make the sign out front more visible. I walked by it twice before finding it. Enjoy

Me and my friend just arrived in india Today and have been unable to get any money, other than 500 ruupes, out of the 7 atms we’ve gone to. Because of this We could only order very little since We need to have enough for dinner as well, a friend arrives with more money tonight. The owner / staff told us that We could order more and just come tomorrow and pay them back, even refused to take my drivers license as insurance that we would come back tomorrow and pay. We ordered the veggie kurma which was delicious but we should have told them we wanted more spicy than mild, our fault. The butter naan was to die for had it not been for our money situation we would probably have had plenty more. Thank you so much for being such nice and understanding people! Great first impression of India!

Just round the corner from the Kerala Cultural Centre its a great place to get some before or after show food, it is very simple, home cooked, fresh and piping hot. Nothing fancy and overlooking the main road you can watch the evening unfold on the road. Definitely not a romantic table for two - but good, cheap, made-to-order eats. My curry was very tasty and the lot was eaten.

Travelling with friends we had a cooking lesson from Mary then ate the food we had cooked on her roof top terrace. It was an altogether wonderful experience. Mary herself is charming and showed us how to use simple ingredients and spices in different ways to produce four dishes that were distinct and delicious. One of the highlights was her puzzlement at our enquiring whether we could substitute different main ingredients, no you cooked that curry a different way.
Mary has a small team around her and everything ran seamlessly - thank you Mary it was wonderful.

We ordered a fish molly and chicken korma. The fish was okay, nothing special. Chicken lacked flavour and was not as delicious as in many other Indian local restaurants we tried. Prices were also on the higher side due to location.

We ate here three times we liked it so much, could really recommend the pea and cashew curry, and prawn masala. The lime soda, and ginger and lemon soda were very refreshing, and we also liked the veg rice. Our meal came to around 600 rupees for two of us, amazing value. The service was friendly and quite quick. Would definitely go there again.

What a great couple of hours spent learning and practicing the art of great Kerala cooking with Mary and her wonderful team. I thought I was quite good and creating authentic Indian dishes at home however I’ve good a bag more skills and the simplicity of each dish with just the right proportion of each spice made all the difference. Can’t recommend this place enough for a class and then of course you enjoy the fruits of your labour - eating it on the roof terrace.

This restaurant is well hidden & don’t be put off- the food here is fabulous & delicious. The restaurant is up a small flight of stairs & all the food is made from scratch, so they can make it to your flavour- if you prefer it mild (we didn’t!!). All the food was amazing- Prawn molee was yummy, potato dish very tasty & fresh, okra lovely & grilled chicken was juicy & delicious. A hidden gem in Fort Cochin & worth a visit. Service was excellent.

We went to this restaurant twice, mostly because of the reviews. We were unimpressed the first time, so went the second time because we thought we were ordering the wrong items. Still unimpressed. Average food. Not very clean. Mosquito problem at night. The clientele are mostly fans who sit at regular tables and are travelers to the in places of India. There is better food and better experiences in Fort Cochi.

Forget all that nonsense that Mary’s had closed, we ate there this evening (4/9/22) and had a delicious meal for four people. Considering that this was their first night open in over two years the food was remarkably good, hot, well seasoned, authentic and excellent value. Onwards and upwards!

Mary's kitchen (after the cook's name) was actually recomended from our local homestay - La Luna bed and breakfast (that I also recommend).
It was exactly as described! The food is amazing, cheap and the staff is super nice. You also have a nice balcony that provides a great environment

I came here with high expectations based on previous reviews, we ordered the pea and cashew, and the vegetable stew. We were asked how hot we wanted the dishes, this is always difficult in a new restaurant as you don't know what the chefs default is. We went for medium.
I would say both dishes were quite bland, the vegetable stew was mainly peas and carrots, why when there are so many lovely vegetables around do you get little but these.
The ginger lemon soda and banana lassi were both good.
There are only around 5 or 6 tables on the balcony.
The food is well priced. But I was not inspired to return

We visited here for dinner after the Kathakali performance as it is just around the corner. It was fabulous, locally run by a lovely family. We ordered, Bhindi Fry, Mango prawn curry and fish wrapped in banana leaf. It was great value for money and very tasty - we wish we came back a second time. It is much cheaper than some of the more well known restaurant names in fort Kochi

Mary & her husband are offering cooking classes in their home again. The restaurant will open as soon as tourism picks up.
If you want to learn simple, healthy, home cooking in a warm, clean, no frills environment, then this is a great place to start. Dishes such as beetroot pacchadi (salad) and prawn with raw mango kolumbu (gravy) are easy to make, full of flavour and bear the authentic taste of Kerala. Well worth 2 hours of your time.

Mary’s Kitchen is the epitome of the Indian dining experience. A family run joint serving a variety of freshly prepared dishes, accompanied by its great ambience (especially during lunchtime hours).
We also enrolled on the cooking class with Mary herself, in her rustic and authentic kitchen, preparing an array of cuisine which we couldn’t resist to tuck into afterwards.
Couldn’t recommend both the dining in and cooking class experience more. Far better than some of the other highly recommended joints in the area, that’s for sure. 10/10
