Excellent Masala Dosa

The hotel serves yummy masala dosa with butter which is yummy and worth an evening snack. The coffee served here is also good. Hot jamoons were available which I did not try. There is very limited menu but what is served is good. I heard you get good idlis for breakfast. This restaurant is a must try for people or tourist passing by Chickmagaluru. This is one of the oldest joints of the city. Established way back in 1960s the hotel has been completed redone and is housed in a new building in the same location. The interiors of the restaurant is new and well done. There is a decent washroom in the restaurant.The hotel is in the main road of Chickmagaluru. You travel up from the bus stand towards Mullayangiri. You will find a Diploma College to your left and circle little ahead. The restaurant is opposite to the college and at the right side corner of the circle.

Authentic South Indian dishes!!

I visited this restaurant with my friends on recommendation by someone. We ordered: o Butter Masala Dose o Plain Masala Dose o Idli Sambar o Gulab Jamun o Filter Coffee The dose was crispy with tasty fillings. Idli was super soft and sambar tasted really nice & different from regular ones. Gulab Jamun was too soft, delicious and warm when served. Filter coffee had a unique aroma. Do visit this place to satiate your authentic South Indian food cravings.

Crispy Masala Dosa

Must visit when you are in Chikmagalur or passing by. Town canteen has been one of the iconic hotels in the town serving one of the tastiest and crispiest masala dosas. There are other items on the menu, but if you are a masala dosa lover, look no further. Generally crowded in the evenings and over the weekends. This place does close during after noon hours, so watch out of the timings.

No nonsense restaurant, no fancy menus but what they serve is the best in Chikamagalur

Stopped there en route for a trip outside Chikamagalur. It was lunchtime but the restaurant was choc a block with people. The customers were tourists like me, bikers on their way, and some locals who seemed to be regulars. I ordered the masala dosa and it lived up to its hype. It was everything that a masala dosa should be; crisp, well-cooked, and full of buttery goodness. Highly recommend it if you are in Chikamagalur. Expect to share a table with other customers if you want to be served early

A must visit for Breakfast coupled with Coffee

The town canteen is situated on RG road of chikamagalur. They have a fixed menu of disa, idli and vada, upma, kesari bath and puliyogare. The idlis were soft and tasty. Especially the upma is very good. Never to miss the dosa. Along with all this, please dont miss the coffee which would be a perfect combi with breakfast. Overall its a great place to have breakfast and shouldnt be missed if you are visiting chikmagalur

Must visit for South Indian cuisine

This place offers basic south Indian food like dosa idli etc. We ordered butter masala dosa, which was absolutely delicious. Very crispy and well cooked with appropriate filling. The chutney was superb too, that too at a very very cheap price point. Also got filter kaapi which was a little strong but good. Must try when in Chikmaglur.

Best masala dosa!

An eatery with least of fan fare and best of food! Clean, superfast service and mouth watering food! My husband studied in Chikmagalur (during early 80s)and thats how i came to know about the place. And whenever we pass Chikmagalur, I have to eat their masala dosa. Being a non south indian a dont like dosa in all places of south but this is exceptionally good!! You have to taste it to believe it. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.

Good butter dosa

Small place which is supposed to be a very old place and all the locals visit to have coffee. It was more of a meeting joint famous for its dosa and filter coffee. Quick service of food and the dosa is also tasty. You can visit this place on the way to mullayanagiri.

Good food but not as worth the hype

Food is good not unique. Good place to have masala dosa but when we had for dinner we had only coconut chutney as side dish. No sambar. They said sambar got over in the morning itself.

Great Dosa and coffee

Many friends recommended this place to me but somehow the dosa did not live up to the hype created although it tasted pretty good! Would surely recommend if you are in town, to also experience the warmth of veteran staff who make you feel at home with their smiling faces and welcoming service style!
