MTR was recommended as one of the must visit places in Bengaluru hence visited for lunch with family.
While the place lives up to the traditional tiffin rooms and their set menus, the experience was strictly average including probably under par service.
Since it was a Saturday, there was a special set menu with multiple courses but no one dish stood out or which I would want to go back for. The service especially left a lot to be desired as no one was willing to listen. Everyone was just focused on serving the immediate course and moving on.
Do visit if you want to tick off heritage famous places of Bangalore but a forgettable experience and I do believe much better options available for set tiffin meals.

I visited the place with two of my French friends who love idli and dosa. Before eating here they did have idli/ dosa in Tamil Nadu but eating here just changed their culinary experience, and mine too. Every dish here is just delicious. The staff is excellent.

Went here after years and the gut response was that standards are dropping. The service was kind of unhappy, the sambar has now too much salt and the dosas are done beyond crisp, making them over-fried.
Maybe we went on a bad hair day. But maybe we are not visiting again. Sad, because we used to like walking over, though now even that is difficult because of the traffic.

We finished passport office work around 1.45pm and hungy, time appropriate for good lunch. Born in Bangalore, thought since a long time to lunch at MTR.
The lunch was utterly disppointed for a Bangaloren. Served in steel pouched plate, very ordinary lunch, poori, aloo sabzi, beetroot sabzi, carrot scraped, some green rice, rice sambar. The sambar was horrible. There was not even a single rich food like paneer item. Rice was so so. Curd rice was horrible. 10 pcs of pineapple served 3rd class quality icecream added to our misery of our lunch at MTR.
I was utterly disappointed. I will never suggest anyone one should visit MTR. They have charged a whopping Rs.280 per lunch.
For what ? The management have taken for granted. Once people visit, will never ever come back, I made up never to visit or advise anyone to visit MTR. They have spoiled the name by serving the orginary luch not even worth Rs.80. Thindi Beedi in VV Puram was much better !!
Please avoid this hotel for lunch.

Its been 4 times facing stomach infection after eating food in MTR.
We tried different locations but not satisfied with food. Taste wise it is good but every time facing the same problem.
Its one of the oldest food joints but now loosing its charm. Really disappointed.

There are a bunch of branches now, but the core remains the same - old school traditional food, which tastes pretty much the way it used to, yet inexpensive, in an atmosphere that headland back to a much smaller Bangalore.
Not really a place to linger, but one to come, eat, get a coffee, and leave.
Clean enough too, making this well worth coming to…

Good food but emotion less people . Have become arrogant in approach with customers with too much demand. Don’t want to understand urgency ..

Idly was sour, khara bath was very spicy and hot(in taste) Coffee was black with less milk, service was pathetic. Toilet was dirty. Ambience very poor. Needs renovation.

We were very much disappointed with quality and taste of food. They are running only on their brand name. If they don’t improve then it is not worth visiting. Bengaluru has many quality restaurants.

Hearing and viewing recent reviews from friends and online sites i thought the dosas here would be amazing but i personally feel that in the past five years that i have been in south India i have had bigger,better and tastier Dosas than this place. The prices are on the higher side for the food and drinks and i personally don't find it attractive enough for another visit.

We 4 friends visited the MTR near Lalbaugh garden.Must say the food lived upto our expectations.
Simply super m tasty. Its a complete vegetarian food feast.A must check out place if you visit Bangalore .

The hotel boasts about the beginning circa 1924 now needs to spice up to the original taste. I had visited the hotel last week only to find that the taste is average including coffee. We visited MTR JP nagar during 1st week for breakfast, We ordered Masala dosa, Idli sambar and filtered coffee and all were tasty and service was very good. place is neat and clean , well maintained.
