About
A great eatery must re-invent its food to be able to intrigue and romance the palate of its patrons whose taste-buds define the benchmark of 'a great meal'. At Icon, Hibachi has enjoyed your unwavering support which has got us nominated as the best oriental restaurant in the tri-city by 'Times Food Awards' and we endeavour to keep this love-affair going with a new whiff of freshness to our much adored recipes! Now Sichuan and Cantonese cuisines are on the menu to add another dimension to the signature Teppanyaki fare with a zing of lemon butter and Kafir lime sauces to the rainbow of tastes. The Burmese Khao-Suey brings more of the far-east while the BBQ pork ribs will glaze the spread with sweetness. The wafting smells of steamed fish fillets and Chili-Garlic Prawns are sure to leave the sea-food aficionados coasting merrily on a sea of flavors. A chef brings his skillful touch and years of a well practiced craft. He knows how to tickle, tantalize, cast a spell and to bring a smile of satisfaction after a good meal. Now watch Master Chef Kalish weave his magic and exhibit his skills with the Japanese and Thai specialties. The Teppanyaki grills are sizzling afresh with new stories of wonder and food. The Thai topico starch crystal dim-sums conceal mysterious delights yet wear their crystal-clear skins to enchant and surprise you most pleasantly. We look forward to your booking a table with us soon at Hibachi for a meal to remember!

We were staying in the Icon Hotel, so we had dinner on our first night. We enjoyed the chance to have decent Oriental food nearby, and visited a second time. The name is a bit misleading. It is Japanese, of course, and they do sushi and other Japanese food, but it is more of a pan-Asian restaurant.
The first time we concentrated on Thai food. The vegetarian tom yum soup and som tam (papaya salad) very very good as was the crispy tofu with red peppers. We were brought one wrong dish, an exotic vegetable rice dish, but it was pretty good so we kept it. It wasn't 100 percent Thai, but near enough and we enjoyed the flavours. Portions were generous and we didn't have room for dessert.
The next time we had learnt our lesson, and skipped the starters. The very amiable (and able) Korean chef came to chat with us, recommended some dishes and advised us how he could adapt dishes to make them suitable for vegetarians. We had the Burmese khao suey, complete with an array of condiments - not as spicy as the Northern Thai version, but delectable nevertheless. We also had pan fried garlic noodles which were much tastier than I had expected. This time we tried their special Hibachi fried ice cream, which was good but not outstanding, maybe I had expected too much.
They do some fabulous variations on cocktails. I had a pomegrenade and basil mojito, and a tangerine and lime one, both a bit unusual but very good. They also have quite decent Indian wine by the glass.
Service was not that polished, but still very good. Prices were what you'd expect in a fairly upmarket restaurant, INR2000 and INR2800 (that was with more drinks). Decor was modern but quite modest.

It was quite sometime ago that we had visited it, but looking for a Pan-Asian restaurant, thought of giving it another try, since, I had last written: Perhaps, we will visit once more and try out different dishes before we take a call on our further visits.
In the intervening years, many specialist restaurants have opened, but we decided to give it another try.
The server was well informed and helpful explaining about the portion size and his recommendations. We ordered a Chicken Tom Yum soup which was OK and a Pan fried noodles with chicken. The soup was ok but we have had better Pan fried noodles elsewhere at a non Pan Asian restaurant, but more of that elsewhere. The total bill came to a shade below Rs. 800 but then we could have ordered another dish too, for variety though we would have had to take home a take away of the non-consumed food. There was a party of a few guests at the live counter so we couldn't partake in that.

Delicious food, from the peanuts in the table cooked in galangal to the amazing broccoli, date and peanut salad; way more depth of flavour than you would imagine. I finished off with vegetarian rendang, again the depth of flavour was amazing. Best food I’ve had in ages !

No recipe was authentic. The Nasi Goreng was oily and sweet. The butterfly pea infused cocktail was fake. It was a simple gin based cocktail. The teriyaki salad had no greens in it. Overall a very disappointing experience. Would never visit again.

This was the worse pan asian i have ever experienced.
Local Street Sushi have been a better option honestly.
So, we went here for 13th Feb on Lunch Date. Ordered a Sushi n a Hot Pot , Sushi had No flavour n No fresh Ingredient used infact the Avocado was rotten on top.
Then came the Star dish Hot Pot , the menu mentioned a list of ingredient that it was supposed to have e.g Water Chestnuts n Broccoli, as we asked them, they replaced it n added Water Chestnut ,
N while we were eating this, it had a piece of Aluminium foil. Please check the pictures n Video attached
The staff is so irresponsible they didn't even appologize once for what had happened infact they reacted like IGNORE

The menu is limited and some of the Asian dishes don’t have authentic taste. The service is very slow and the cocktails aren’t that good either.

Maybe my expectations were high or my excitement was overflowing with the prospect of authentic Japanese cuisine in our Desi Chandigarh . The entrance, lights and all are fine but the interior ambience is disappointing , it is like an area carved out of desperation.
Nothing Japanese in the ambience, neither the service . The food was edible but again if you have tried Japanese food earlier than you will be dissatisfied and disappointed !! One corner has been reserved for the live chef counter, which is a welcome addition and something unique .
Better to take your family for some good Chinese food if you have the oriental urge . The food presentation and serving was also nothing special to write about . Routine dishes like the Pan fried noodles and teriyaki chicken can be tried .

A part of the Icon hotel this is a not very large place in central Chandigarh. It has a modern.unAsian decor and a wide menu. It has a teppanyaki facility which seemed unutilised.
We tried the tom yum and tom kha soup varieties which were good. The kung pao chicken was tasty and served in a potato basket. The fish in chinese sauce was good too. The jakka noodles and fried rice were passable.the chinese greens were a large melange without much flavour.
