The place hits the spot for food. They give large portions and have a hardy selection of food for breakfast. We had the quesadilla and the shakshuka. This was the first time we had tried shakshuka and it was delicious. They say it is spicy,...and they aren't kidding, it does have a little kick. The quesadilla's were average. Large size and decent flavor. The atmosphere was nice and pleasant. The service seemed a bit rushed, we were never asked if we wanted another drink wile we were sitting there. Overall, I would say this is a decent spot for a morning drink and breakfast.More

This is a great place for local food for breakfast/brunch. We were in town for a tour of UofM and arrived way to early so had lunch first. The menu is breakfast heavy but there are lunch options (burger, salads). I had a chorizo omelet...that was tasty. The beverages also appear to be locally sourced. Lemonade was good. The service was friendly and fast. No complaints!More

We just loved this place where we had breakfast while at the art fair. The decor is awesome, the meals delicious, the wait staff just perfect. I only wish they were open for dinner as well....but it is the perfect college town place to eat....Loved all the goodies they sold as well....very casual and fun.More

The food was excellent. I always judge a place on the fries. McDs level crisp and super fresh. I also got a mushroom burger and it was fried, crispy, it did need the aioli to balance it otherwise it wouldn't be as good. However, the...sandwich as a whole was a great bite. Will definitely be dreaming about that sandwich. The drinks were ok. Staff were super nice! Great first bite in Ann Arbor.More

Someone recommended we go to Ann Arbor for lunch since we were at loose ends on a rainy day. Happened upon this Cafe and stopped for lunch towards the end of their day. Host at desk was a little put out, but the waitstaff was...very friendly and accommodating. For some in our party this was a little too "healthy" and organic, but we all found something delicious to eat. Our vegetarian was impressed. I had the best Cobb salad ever here.More

Great brunch day menu for every eater. We ordered the breakfast quesadilla with mushrooms and onions along with the potato tacos and soft eggs scrabbled.

Wow, why haven’t I visited earlier? Outstanding breakfast and interesting menu. They even make their own jam! Fantastic pumpkin latte made just slightly sweet with oat milk. Next time will try Bloody Mary with house pickle-infused vodka. This will be my new regular for breakfast...and lunch.More

Not only does Avalon have a great brunch menu for food, but also creative seasonal drinks. I loved my peppermint coffee concoction to go with the avocado toast.

Went for breakfast recently with a friend. This was my first visit, but she had been several times before and recommended we eat here. We sat on the side of the restaurant near the windows which was more private and quieter than in the main...area. Our food was very good. I had the avocado toast which was delicious and very filling. Service was OK - nothing special. Prices were very reasonable. When we left, I purchased a loaf of their delicious olive bread and a piece of carrot cake to go - both highly recommended.More

My wife and I both ordered the bacon avocado breakfast sandwich. It came with a side of potatoes and the meal was enough for two people (see the pic). It was tasty and due to the layering of goodness, a little bit messy to eat....And the coffee was a definite plus!More

Fro years, we have often had Avalon bread at the house courtesy of my wife who works nearby the Detroit bakery. When the opened in Ann Arbor, it took me awhile to go for several reasons. First, the bread for sale there is not good--generally...day old, stale IMHO but not sold as such. Then, I went for a couple happy hours and found it OK for that--not spectacular, though. Just this week, however, I finally made it to lunch (twice) and ate from the regular menu. Happy to report, the food was outstanding, though they have lots of service issues to work out. On the food, I had the frittata sandwich with fries one day and the breakfast burrito (eggs, black beans) the other, also with fries. My former colleague had the farm greens with his lunch today, and they looked great, but I cannot eat raw fruits or vegetables for the most part. Both of my orders were very good (and the frittata sandwich was superb, albeit a tad messy (common with many orders there as my colleague had the same issue with his mushroom burger as he struggled to eat it with knife and fork). Portions are generous and prices are modest. Service and related issues are at best a work in progress, however, despite the Ann Arbor location being open 2 years or more. The specials menu, for example lists a price for items before 10 am but nothing about price after 10 am (such as for lunch!!!). Service is very slow at lunch in my recent experience (twice this week) but faster at happy hour (limited food offerings). Another issue that can be fixed easily: their fries are tasty for about ten seconds but then go off, because they get cold due to them serving those dumb ass skinny fries. I really hate those precisely because they get cold so fast (same at Jolly Pumpkin and other places that make this fatal mistake). I eat one or two and take the rest at home to be eaten a day later fresh out of the toaster over while hot. Bottom line: great food for the most part but with some annoying (but fixable) problems, made worse because any management team worth its salt would have fixed these issues a year ago.More

I have been here many times and the service is always phenomenal, second only to the amazing food!! They have great vegetarian options and while their fare may sound a bit fancy, there's something for everyone and it's delicious and filling! Their drinks with steamed...milk leave something to be desired and if you or someone you're going with is sensitive to noise or has trouble hearing, try to avoid peak hours (as the room can feel very loud), but don't let that keep you away!More

My wife and I are long-time fans of Avalon Bakery in Detroit and the new Avalon Cafe in Detroit near Campus Martius. Today we tried the Ann Arbor Avalon Cafe. Everything was good except service, which, though polite and friendly, was slightly sporadic. Also, loud...mostly country western music over the sound system could be described as border-line sound pollution, and surprising for a sophisticated town like Ann Arbor. On our last visit to the Detroit Avalon Cafe there was no sound system noise which made for a much more pleasant lunchtime and everyone could converse with no ambient competition. Since it appeared on the Detroit area scene, Avalon has long been known for top quality baked goods and menu choices. The Ann Arbor Avalon definitely continues that excellent tradition.More

We were in town for a wedding and stumbled across this place as soon as we arrived. The service was very good and the prices were fair. I had the “grilled cheese and egg” which was amazing! There were 2 pieces of cranberry bread filled...with raclette cheese and topped with a fried egg and drizzled with a honey nut glaze. Someone in my party had the chicken and biscuit topped with a beet slaw and she said it was divine! If I am ever in Ann Arbor again, I’d definitely go back!More

We have been here for breakfast & brunch before and it's been good. Yesterday we went for lunch and it was terrible. The service was slow from finding & clearing a table outside to our server taking forever and bringing "ice tea" without any ice....They were out of their roasted sweet corn salad and the scallion bread so I ordered the special lobster roll. The description made it sound amazing but instead I received what looked like tuna salad swimming in mayo. I'm not sure why something like this would be considered special when it wasn't. Now the fries that came with it were good and so was my wife's cobb salad but when the bill is just under $50 you would expect something more. If you want breakfast food this is a decent place to eat but there are plenty of better options in the area.More
