I've come here quite often on Friday evenings with colleagues and they have a good happy hour promotion.

It is a small restaurant in the narrow but happening Haji Lane, near Arab Street. The food was nice and really enjoyable with the Live Music. There was only another restaurant with Live Music in Haji Lane, or for that matter in the entire area. But the food and drinks were definitely over-priced for the location and kind of restaurant... Good for people watching but the drinks seem to be overpriced. A bottle of wine $80? While the variety of drinks seem decent, the staff professionalism could be improved.

There are two locations, just down the lane from each other. The smaller of the two locations has live music most nights. With sidewalk seating you get front row seats for people watching!

Don't let the looks put you off. Yes it only has tables outside and the service can be hit and miss and you certainly won't go for the food but it's the perfect place to meet friends and share a tower or five while watching the world walk past. Discounts for regulars make this my go to local if it's... More

Service - I don't care attitude. Food - Two dishes chosen which were not available (with hind sight, that was a lucky escape). We decided just to have onion rings as safe option. They were rubbish. Came from somewhere down the street. Out of a packet, I suspect. Did not order anything else. Drinks - ok but still waiting for... More

In fact this place has two restaurants within 50 meters distance, we visited the smaller cafe, and they had decent and changing live music - outside. And beer prices in this area are outrageous, but within happy hours this place serves great beer at decent prices, Staff can be anything from very attentive to gone for 5-10 minutes, but when... A decent spot off Arab street with great happy hour beers 2 for 1 Draught or bottle. Food does not look good but the drafts are quite satisfying. Choose from tiger asahi Heineken or carlsberg. Tables outside are good people watching.

Dear, dear - hard to get a (sensibly priced) beer at lunch time in the Arab Quarter, so after walking for ages we chose Merdandy. Casual, friendly and great for people watching. Tasty dishes at reasonable prices - the cheesy tofu was excellent. (We ordered 2 more servings) Beers were 2 for the price of 1 - bonus! We'd search... More

Everywhere has beer towers in Singapore, but my group and I returned to Merdandy's a few times due to the price. Beer towers here were cheaper than most other places, place we managed to get ourselves a free serve of chips every time. Great vibe, show the soccer when it is on. Quick service.

Staying in Geylang

Neighbourhood Profile
Only a short journey from Singapore’s sparkling and polished city centre, Geylang is a world away. Here in one of the least touristy areas of Singapore, visitors are privy to an unfiltered glimpse of Singapore life. On Sunday afternoons, migrant workers gather in Geylang to let off steam after a tough week. At the eastern end of Geylang Road, families and friends happily enjoy picnics. By contrast, at the western end, a more colourful side of Singapore can be seen, as street workers mingle with Sunday revelers in outdoor coffee shops. Take a friend, grab a beer and a local meal (frog porridge, perhaps?), and settle in to enjoy the show.
