This was my second visit to the famous Raffles and oh what a disappointment. The first was some 30 years ago when a Singapore sling was served in a tall cocktail glass, made up in front of you by a "Proper bar man" who took...More

One night (stopover) in Singapore so wanted to go the famous Raffles to sample a Singapore Sling cocktail. Beautiful colonial style hotel in a prime area - I was immediately impressed. Thereafter it was somewhat disappointing. The bar was closed for refurbishment so the signage...More

While staying at the Raffles, we had the opportunity to take drinks in the Bar & Billiard Room (as well as our breakfast each morning, as the hotel is under renovations nixing the use of other restaurants in the complex). We tried a couple of...More

This is the place to be to try the famous original Singapore Sling. The architecture is old colonial style. Many expatriates frequent this place. There is free flow of peanuts that you throw on the floor. They have a huge varietyof liquors and alcohol to...More

I don't really know what I expected, a grand location with style and panache oozing old world charm in the heart of a busy modern city? What I was met with was Thorpe Park for adults. And not in a good way. The bar is...More

Gets busy on weekends because of the renovations but guests get priority. Good place to meet whilst the renovations are under way.

We visited the billiards room for a tourist trip for a Singapore sling. The drink was excellent and couldn't be faulted. The atmosphere ( Sunday night at about 1800) was leisurely and informal but a little lacking. Service was ok, quickly seated, but we had...More

Let's be honest: we all go there because the Singapore Sling was invented here. It makes for a folkloristic night, with peanuts shells on the floore and that colonial look. However, the Singapore Sling is too sweet for me, and if you are the same...More

Well, we were in Singapore and we couldn't not go to Raffles the iconic image of English colonialism in Singapore. It is of course closed for extensive renovations. But the Bar & Billiard Room was still open so we popped along early evening for a...More

Having read other reviews I understand how some may feel it is over priced and a bit of a tourist trap. Of course they are playing on the name but for us, having travelled all the way from England we simply had to have a...More

With Long Bar undergoing restoration, our iconic Singapore Sling experience will continue to be served here. A light snack menu complements our renowned cocktail as well as an extensive list of other cocktails and spirits.

The Singapore Sling, widely regarded as the national drink of the country, was first created in 1915 at the Long Bar in Raffles Singapore by bartender Ngiam Tong Boon. It later went on to gain international fame and a century later, is still enjoyed around the globe. To learn more about the Singapore Sling, please click here.

Regarded as the oldest existing bar in its original location in Singapore, Bar & Billiard Room is an institution within Raffles Singapore. It occupies a standalone building built in 1896, and was the first in the country to have a lady bartender stirring up a storm in the 1920s. Inside, chandeliers hang down from the high ceiling and the floor tiles are replicas of the original. One of the five original billiard tables from the turn of the century can be found there, where guests are welcomed to play a round or two. Picture windows look out to the surrounding thick foliage, interrupted by elegant cast-iron frames that compose the terrace.
