Located on the corner of Electric Road, Violet Cake Shop is hard to miss. The difference with this bakery is that you see the cakes from outside and order from the counter. The egg tarts looked quite nice from the outside so I decided to...get one. However I could not see the prices. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Egg tart: When they remove the egg tart from the metal casing they will use a piece of bread to act as a surface to knock it out. Then they will put the egg tart in a cake casing and put it in a small carrier bag and pass it to you after you have paid, however if you are still fumbling with the coins they will hang the bag on the window. When I got the egg tart it was really hot, the pastry base was shortcrust and luckily it was not that buttery. As for the sweetness of the overall egg tart it was just right. The custard filling was quite runny just like the Chinese smooth steamed egg. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★More

I loved this place. The bake fresh and different types of local bakeries in different hours. This was my everyday breakfast place during my stay in Hong Kong. I will definitely come back for more in the next visit.

The smell of fresh hot bread lead me to this little bakery just a few steps from my hotel. The bake goods come out all day long so no matter what time you get there you can bet its fresh. It's a popular place, they...have the best egg tart I've tasted in HK but they go fast, I saw a fresh tray come out as I was on my way to dinner by the time I came back an hour later they were gone. For a morning treat the apricot twist is great and if you like the savory kind of breakfast they have them too. A must stop if near by.More

Fell asleep early and woke up at 4:30am hungry, looked up local places opening early and fund this tiny bakery opening at 5:30. Ran there and had some of the most amazing pastries, and dirt cheap too!

This small bakery in the heart of Tin Hau produces sublimes pastries with a light feel to them – red bean buns, coconut buns and the like. Always warm.

We ate here two years ago and the quality is still excellent. We had the twice baked pork bun, the pineapple coconut bun and the red bean bun. Very tasty. The morning selection is a bit different but still delicious.

Yesterday we took a walk through Victoria Park and stopped at Violet cake shop before going back. The place is easy to find, close to the exit gate of the park and in a side street (as stated here anyway). We took an egg tart...which was ok, not as creamy as I had in other locations but cheaper, and a red bean bun which was great and full of beans. Overall a wonderful spot where you can grab a sweet and enjoy it on a bench in Victoria park. The lady behind the counter was friendly and helpful and the shop had a good selection of buns. Overall I totally recommendMore

Inexpensive, fresh and hot, fresh from the oven. I was told they making it throughout the day. So the chance is you will get it fresh most likely throughout the day-time hours. It is not too sweet but do have taste egg tart suppose to...be. By the way, my wife bought 40 of the same cake (not sure what it is but kind of soft like donuts but elastic) back to US. If someone can find out what the name is, please share.More

It's one of the local no frills bakery that you can find in HK baked freshly in-house. With big portion buns and at very affordable price, one of my breakfast fix whenever I stayed in that area.

If you’re in the area, do NOT pass up the chance to get some freshly baked tarts from this tiny bakery. The smell will make your mouth water and the taste… OMG. Hot, flaky and delicious. Still dreaming of the pineapple and custard buns. Salty...chocolate is also a good choice. If you see a lineup, don’t worry: I’ve never seen a line move so quickly.More

I have traveled and stayed in the vicinity of Tin Hau for the past few years. There are a few bakeries on Electric Avenue and I have always gone to 2 of them but not Violet. Yesterday I noticed that Violet had great ratings on...TA so I tried it...WAY BETTER than the other 2 bakeries across the street. This will now be my Regular Bakery when there!!More

We ate here every morning during our time in Hong Kong! The buns were fresh and there is such a variety that we were able to try a different flavour (or two) every day! The egg tarts were tasty too.

Cheap little bakery where everything seems to be hot and fresh. Staff don't really speak english so just point and go. Went there a few times as it was near my hotel and there is often a queue of people. The custard tarts are hot...and fresh but disappear very quickly.More

We were staying at Somerset Victoria Park and will walk past this bakery everyday without fail. The breads in the morning would usually draw my attention as locals will be queuing to buy them for their breakfast to go. Naturally there are more products baked...for sale in the morning compared to that in the evening. I only purchased the breads on my last day in Hong Kong. I had wanted to buy their egg sponge cake (I had spied it on one of the mornings) but when I was there on a Tuesday morning after 10.30am, there was none left. So I bought one luncheon meat egg bun (HK$6) and one raisin bun (HK$5) which were both huge. I only tried them the next day and even after one day, the buns were not stale and had retain the fluffiness texture. The luncheon meat egg bun would be considered the MVB (most valuable bun) as it has luncheon meat (not sliced too thinly) and egg omelette. In Singapore, such luncheon meat bun (which are smaller in size and without the egg omelette) would have cost more than S$1.30 (more than HK$7). The raisin bun has no other ingredients other than a few pieces of raisin. Though plain, it was tasty and fluffy. Would be able to find such highly quality and cheap buns in Singapore.More
