Two couples visited this restaurant to celebrate a new job. The food was good overall though some of the earlier dishes seemed more about form over substance with many small elements of different ingredients on the plates. The wine pairing didn't meet expectations, there were 3 wines which, excluding the glass of champagne, seemed less than what you would be... More

To celebrate our wedding anniversary, we decided to try one of the most artistic restaurants in HK, Tate Dinning. The head chef is being rated as one of the best female chefs in Asia, Vicky Lau, who is well known for her dishes' artisitc presentation. Tate Dinning offers two types of chef menu dinner, 6 or 8 summer course selection.... More

2 couples with high expectations! We are all experienced travelers and foodies :-) We managed to get a table reservations for a Saturday way in advance since this place is very small. We had a table in a nitch all other tables are in one long line along the wall. It was nice to sit there but the sofa is... More

During our 8 days City Trip in Hong Kong we have booked several Michelin Star restaurants, Tate Dinning Room holding 1. The restaurant is located in a narrow uproad street and isn't easy to find, we walked passed it the first time as the Taxi driver had delivered us on the beginning of Elgin Street. We reserved a table for... More

Exquisite dining experience. We'd been to Japan the year before, and had some of the finest kaseiki meals. The Tate isn't strictly kaseiki (more a modern fusion of Japanese sensibilities with Euro/French food) but the beautifully presented food we had was comparable, if not better than the 1-2 Michelin-starred restaurants in Kyoto. The service was elegant...the food looked amazing. Taste-wise... More

After reading about the chef being awarded the best female chef in Asia 2015 award, we booked in advance and ate at Tate Dining on a Saturday night. The restaurant is small, only seating 24 people with a tiny kitchen headed by Vicki Lau in Elgin Street. The wait staff are very polite and efficient. We chose the winter gastronomy... More

. Small restaurant with probably not more than say 24 covers so booking recommended. The set winter menu (6 courses ) was very good . Beautifully presented ( in fact very artistically ) with fine ingredients and attention to detail and very good service . Wine pairings also pretty good although servings on the small side . Only one small... More

We arrived on a Friday night ready for some good food in a relaxing atmosphere. We chose the 6 course set menu with the wine pairing. Most of the courses were combinations of flavours cooked in differing ways- some more complex than others. There have been tons of reviews describing the food in great detail so I won't do it... This is a treat for the senses from the wagyu beef tartare to the yuzu sorbet with snow chrysanthemum mousse and passion fruit gelée, on our winter tasting menu. When the latter arrived on a semi-transparent dish, it looked like a work of art that was far too good to eat. We were in awe when we did (eat it)!... More

My husband and I invited several friends to dine for the first time at this restaurant during our visit in Hong Kong early November. It is quite difficult to locate the place and fortunately our friends are locals and know how to give direction to the taxi driver. It's all the way up to a stiff and narrow street on... More

Staying in Central

Neighbourhood Profile
Central
When people think of Hong Kong, most imagine movies with famous skyscrapers dominating the skyline. The area widely known as Central is the major financial hub and entertainment district, which truly lives up to the saying, “work hard, play hard.” Bars stay open late into the night and there just happens to be a street party every weekend. Although everything seems to be operating at lightning speed, Central is full of quiet, hidden gems. Nestled between office towers are wet markets and some of the city’s oldest restaurants dating back to the 1960s. Feeling a bit overwhelmed? Retreat from the crowds by exploring beautifully restored historical buildings and even a green oasis of botanical gardens.
