Verging on deserted one night midweek.A brasserie design that both captivates and horrifies. With few diners in the room one expects attentive service. Here it is the total opposite, heads sunk into their mobiles.Cocktail napkins for diners, no salt and pepper on the table, nobody asks if you want water along with your wine. But the biggest disappointment was a dish as... Libertine has a great space on Aberdeen Street facing PMQ, a nice French feeling and airy interior that is partially open air toward the street. For lunch they have an OK open salad bar and a number of mains to go with. We went for a late lunch 2:00, so we assume that is why the restaurant was nearly empty...... More

My friend organised a big Christmas dinner here - there were about 30 of us. The set up was OK. We were the only diners there and we arrived around 7.30pm, there were a few people drinking around the bar. I was much looking forward to the dinner, having paid nearly 600hkd for a dinner - but it included drinks... More

I purchased a Groupon deal for this restaurant. The voucher was a 4 person deal that included a bottle of wine, an antipasti platter and 24 Coffin Bay oysters. Today I phoned to make a table reservation and explained that unfortunately 2 of the four people had dropped out so that only 2 of us would be attending. The staff... More

After a fortnight of mainly Asian food, we thought we'd have a change and go 'European'. This place really looked the part, done as a French bistrot and with a fair looking menu. We ordered and waited ... and waited (we'd ordered pasta with prawns and a Caesar salad). We had a few misgiving when the people at the next... More

A group of 6 of us arrived at various times from 7pm on Friday. I ordered an aperol (on the menu) only to be told they'd run out. Had a Campari n soda but the soda was flat, a friend had a lime soda - also flat. Everyone else at the table had to request their drinks at least twice.... More

Group of six walks up. They get table ready. We order then are told steak frites is sold out. Would we like fish and chips. Disappointed. Great decor, but service and lack of food was disappointing.

Yesterday we, a party of three had lunch in the restaurant. Warmly welcomed. The lunch had a menu with choices. We opted for the salad buffet. Well prepared, good selection of fresh and composed salads and other options like cold cuts and cheese. We took from the 4 main course choices the risotto, the duck confit and beef in red... More

We stayed at an airBNB above the restaurant and was attracted to the very cool and open layout. Had dinner and breakfast here and the food was quite lovely. When we said the red wine was a little stale, the bar tender opened a new bottle immediately and replaced it. Even though the place was served by just a waiter... More

A very nice, reasonably priced restaurant with a French decor. We had the Weekend Brunch menu, and chose the English Breakfast, which came with choice of eggs, 2 cumberland sausages, 2 slices of bacon, mushrooms and beans and toast. The service was attentive and pleasant. A nice alternative to the Aberdeen Social Club across the street, and less expensive, and... More

Staying in Central

Neighbourhood Profile
When people think of Hong Kong, most imagine movies with famous skyscrapers dominating the skyline. The area widely known as Central is the major financial hub and entertainment district, which truly lives up to the saying, “work hard, play hard.” Bars stay open late into the night and there just happens to be a street party every weekend. Although everything seems to be operating at lightning speed, Central is full of quiet, hidden gems. Nestled between office towers are wet markets and some of the city’s oldest restaurants dating back to the 1960s. Feeling a bit overwhelmed? Retreat from the crowds by exploring beautifully restored historical buildings and even a green oasis of botanical gardens.
