I’d meant to go to Hong Zhou Restaurant for quite some time and finally had dinner there with a group of friends last night.
I highly recommend stewed pork trotter in brown sauce which is one of the signature dishes of the restsurant. But it’s necessary to pre-order. It’s very delicious and flavourful and cooked to perfection without being greasy at all.
Yunnan ham in honey sauce was another star dish of the night. Stinky tofu was very good too.
Most other dishes which we’d were tasty though not outstanding.
It’s quite noisy in the restaurant. But it’s only a small issue.

Shanghai-style restaurants are aplenty in Hong Kong, but none comes as authentic as this. As its name suggests, Hong Zhou Restaurant serves the untainted taste of southeastern China. Many options are unavailable elsewhere in the city and may even be unheard of for first-time diners. Food is very nice and mildly seasoned. Fried freshwater shrimps is crispy and savory. Smoked frog leg is succulent and full of smoky aroma. Dessert is very underwhelming, though. Service is polite. Price is on the upper end but quite reasonable. Reservation is a must especially during weekends.

Apparently it’s a 1 Michelin Star restaurant. Went there with my local colleagues who knew what to order. We had jelly fish, chicken feet, drunken crab which are all rather exotic. The highlight was definitely this enormous fish head that was steamed and bathed in a soy sauce n some chili (not too spicy). It was fresh and steamed to perfection but because of its size, best shared with at least 4 people. Overall enjoyed the meal

I was looking for recommended restaurant around my hotel and found that Hong Zhou is quite interesting. All the review on the internet sum it all up. Even they has good service, I think it’s a little bit overrated for 1 Michelin star. I am trying several menu that they’ve recommended and our family enjoyed it well. They’ve come with premium taste and seasoning in every meal. So I can give 4 star for my review because they provide looks-plain-but-delicious-friedrice, and recommended salted ham and fried bean curd bun, the rest was good, recommended, but weren’t that extraordinary.

Went there with my friend for quick lunch. Although I do not believe this was the exactly genuine Hangzhou Cuisine, the food was actually nice and tasty and the service was not too bad as well. I was told that it is a one michelin star restaurant which I think is overrated as far as I am concerend.

This restaurant, as its name implies, specializes in Hangzhou cuisine. The decor is nice, with touches of Chinese calligraphy and arts on the walls. You can also see many photos of the celebrities visiting the restaurant throughout the years. Our table is spacious and even though quite close to the next ones we were quite comfortable during the whole meal.
For starters we ordered three appetizers. The first was Lotus Roots Stuffed with Glutinous Rice in Syrup ($70). This is one of the signatures of the restaurant, with the glutinous rice stuffed inside the holes in the lotus roots and prepared in the syrup. On the bite you can feel the chewy texture of the rice with the slight crunchy lotus roots, a nice texture contrast. The syrup had a bit of sweet osmanthus, making it fragrant yet not overly sweet. A nice one to begin our meal.
The second starter was Pig's Kidney Special Sauce ($80). The kidneys were cooked well to make it soft, which was unlike the Cantonese style which generally would make it more crunchy by blanching. The special sauce was something I could not figure out, having some spiciness but balanced with a hint of sweetness and saltiness. Overall an interesting taste but not my favorite.
The third starter was Wine-saturated Chicken ($118). A common dish available in all Shanghai and Hangzhou restaurants, this one had a generous portion of chicken, marinated in the Chinese yellow wine sufficiently to impart the aromas and flavors to the chicken. I found the bitterness of the wine was a bit too strong and while I was not sure whether this was supposed to be the original style I just found that to be less appealing.
We each ordered a soup, with my mother having Fish Balls Soup with Water Shield ($48), my wife having Mandarin Fish Soup with Assorted Vegetables ($48), while for me it was Hot and Sour Soup ($40). Many people knew the hot and soup soup was my favorite but unfortunately I found mine a bit disappointing as it was not spicy nor sour enough. Comparatively it seemed the other two soups were much better. Next time I would try those instead.
For the main dish we had the Sauteed Fresh Water Shrimps with Longjing Tea Leaves ($268). I never failed to be amazed by the labor to remove the shell of these small shrimps, and it would take a while to finish all the shrimps required to prepare this dish. The shrimps were cooked perfectly, keeping the delicate taste and each showing a beautiful orange pink color. My only comment was that the tea leaves were virtually non-existence and did not add any aroma or flavor to the shrimps.
The other main dish was Sauteed Pea Sprouts with Crab Roe ($298). I found this one another of my favorite in the evening, with a nice presentation of the crab roe in the middle and surrounded by the bright green pea sprouts. The vegetable was in season, young and tender, plus the great taste of the crab roe getting it to another level of enjoyment. I also thought this dish was very reasonably priced if comparing with other restaurants. A must-order in my opinion.
With two Steamed Flour Roll ($76) and a bowl of rice ($14), the total bill on the night was $1205. The service was decent without any surprise, and overall I recommend this restaurant to someone who wants to try some authentic Hangzhou cuisine.

Honestly I thought food at Crystal Jade was better and more economical.
Came here for dinner, ordered quite a few dishes. The key standout (and quite tasty) was the pork knuckle- that was tender and delicious! Pork basically fell off the bone.
Other dishes were so-so. We ordered the sweet/sour fried fish, which cost like $450, while a better tasting one at Crystal Jade was around $300.... just didn’t compared well.
Had the deep fried tiny prawns, stinky tofu, some noodle dishes, snake beans etc...

I love visiting this restaurant from time to time not because of its Michelin rating but the uniqueness of Hangzhou cuisine in Hong Kong. The drunken pigeon is very juicy and chewy to start with. I always thought drunken chicken is the best but please wait until you try the pigeon here. It is not the bamboo shoots season otherwise I would certain order some. But the so called "pure vegetable" which is found in the lake prepared together with fish ball meat is equally refreshing and nourishing. The Chinese Jin Hua ham with cracker and bun is yummy. The braised turtle jelly and sea cucumber is a really special delight for the evening and is a must try if you are not scare of both. The green tea is however a bit out of season. I would give it a five if the toilet could be maintained slightly better.

The fish was extraordinary and could not have enough of it. The tong po pork was also very nice. These were the favorite dish I had for the night. However, remember to make a reservation first before you come otherwise you will be disappointed as the restaurant is always full. Price on the high end.

If you enjoy the worst service please come there. We arrived at two o'clock there they were not welcome customer to come as they are in a rush to finish and enjoy their lunch.
We arrived at 14:00 they said no set lunch on offer and asked to leave.I asked if your last order is at14:30 why can't we order? He said yes you can.The waitress kept on saying u have to rush and paid your bill at 14:30.
They just don't want us to stay and order but we did
When my friend asked where is the toilet the staff laughter at my friend once she went to toilet by saying a three years ago would know that logo is a toilet sign.
We ordered one dish of tofu that's 65 HK dollars and on top of that two people 16 dollars for serving tea plus 8 dollars of ten percent service charged which add up to 89 dollars on total for the extremely rude service and that tofu
The people are very rude in the restaurant .They don't bother to serve people.Food is average and overprice in term of 89 dollars for a tiny Tofu on top of that a very rude service as you work for them as a slave and beg for a meal from them
They have shown many photos with the Chinese celebrities on the wall.As an ordinary people you will strongly feel that they don't want to serve you and you are not welcome to be there.
The worst experience with this restaurant.
Just close it down and serve your VIP

This place wont't be very crowded and loud. We had ordered a 6-person lunch set and add on some other dim sums and dishes. I love the dessert most, red bean hot cakes and green bean sweet soup are also nice to have :)

Delicious food, efficient service, but here's the icing on the cake. We ordered a Hangzhou Style Fried Noodles among other things and asked them not to put any meat in it because one of us was vegetarian. When our food arrived, the waitress who took our order came over to our table before we started eating and prodded through the noodles with a pair of chopsticks to make sure it was completely vegetarian. This was a touch of class if I ever saw one. This has "never" happened to me in any Chinese restaurant in over 20 years in Hong Kong. Most restaurants don't bother to check if the kitchen has taken good care of vegetarian customers and we have often come to grief. Well done indeed. Fully deserving of one Michelin Star just for this. I will definitely be going back. Highly recommended. The restaurant decor is old and dated, but this is entirely tolerable.

All dishes we tried are very delicious that include the cold dish appetizers, main courses and desserts. Fish head is my most favorite dish. It is reasonably priced in Hong Kong Island. This restaurant serves traditional Hangzhou cuisine and is quite famous. Reservation is a must. You may find lots of celebrity photos on the wall.

Wan Chai / Causeway Bay
Wan Chai and Causeway Bay are the retail centres of Hong Kong Island. Filled with shops, malls and restaurants, both areas are bustling with people – tourists and locals alike. Causeway Bay has one of the highest rents on the planet, and is a bit more polished and modern than its Wan Chai counterpart. Beneath the surface there is more than meets the eye – find boutique stores in the above ground floors of buildings and wander into side streets to find interesting restaurants and shops tucked away from the main roads. Wan Chai especially has experienced a modern revival in recent times, with an influx of trendy restaurants and bars around the Star Street area.
