I am Korean, but live abroad. I was in Seoul for a few days so went to Sanchon with cousins who live in Seoul. I was excited to try Korean vegetarian so my cousins were willing to try Sanchon. The decor was all over the place. It didn't feel peaceful or temple like- it felt frazzled and like it didn't... More

Second visit to this place. Loved the temple style vegetarian food. Food are prepared with minimal sauces so if you are someone who likes strong flavour you will find it quite bland. tasteMany varieties of mountain & wild vegetables I have never seen or tried before. Also loved the fermented pine tea which tasted like rice wines & the mulberry... More

Sitting down to a meal in Sanchon means allowing yourself to unlearn many things about anything you've tried before. Whether its Korean or another type of cuisine, Sanchon came up with many moments of beauty throughout my meal there. First of all, you need to understand that you will be tasting temple food. Korean Buddhist temple food. And this already... More

This is temple food. Foreigners will not know what most of the item are but that's 1/2 the fun. not cheap.

This place is an experience. The ambiance is great and the atmosphere so peaceful. I very much enjoyed being in this place. The food was just alright. There were a couple of items that were delicious! The rice cake pancake was delicious and all the various types of seaweed. It was a bit pricey and I wouldn't go again, but... More

I went with my family and when we got there the men was very rude and impolite, and we sat at the floor table, and the lady there was very impolite with no smile and never told us there is the menu of the dishes we would get serve , we sat down and they just bring us out the... More

Dinner started out ok (see pictures someone posted in August 2016, we had the same exact dinner in October 2016). My husband is a fan of vegetarian, and I like it when it's good. This isn't. I read another review where he felt like a cow chewing on grass. Yep! That's about right. Very few different flavors, boring tastes, yet... More

Went for lunch with a local friend. It's a vegetarian "temple food" restaurant; there was a set menu. Wonderful food, decor, and ambience. It was an extravagant feast -- you'll be hard pressed to consume all the food. We sat on the floor, Korean style, but there are also tables. Perhaps a bit pricey (I think it was ~ USD... More

I wasn't sure what to expect from this restaurant. Important things to consider: we had the full course lunch (not sure if we had a choice), they brought us four courses all of which were vegetarian and were very beautifully plated. The taste of the food itself was interesting as there was very little flavor. I have never had so... More

Staying in Insadong

Neighbourhood Profile
Insadong
Nestled between Jongno and Samcheongdong, this small neighborhood offers a crash course in various aspects of Korean culture. Rows of shops display traditional Korean goods such as pottery and earthenware, crafts, fans, and more, making it a popular spot for souvenir shopping. The Ssamziegil shopping complex in particular has become a local institution for its unique spiral layout and the many boutique shops inside that sell handmade crafts and goods. This is the perfect neighborhood to sample a range of Korean dishes, with vegetarian Korean temple cuisine restaurants being a popular draw, but street food carts are just as famous. As a top tourist destination, crowds can swell, particularly on weekends, but you can find some rest and respite in one of the private art galleries or grab a cup of Korean tea in a tea house – many of which are located in beautifully renovated traditional Korean homes.
