A local took us across on the ferry to this very traditional restaurant. All the Mezze are brought around for you to make your selection and that is not easy. The ones we choose were fabulous. Followed by 4 different fish dishes which were delightful: fresh as can be and the flavours were amazing. Many locals in the restaurant which... More

This is A very traditional Istanbul type of MEYHANE. Most tasty of meze plates, cold and hot starters. Typical Bosbhorus fishes. Lots of regular customers. It is a must see place in Istanbul. No credit card accepted. You should have enough cash.

Been going there for a long time. Unfortunately, my last visit was for our company's new year dinner in late December. I personally selected it for good food and reasonable pricing. Total frustration; food was ordinary. Service was lousy. The worst part our dinner was the bill. We have been overcharged. Have informed the owner that it would be the... More

Asia side, amazing view of Boshporus, drinking raki, eating local Turkish tapas, delicious seafoods, fresh fish, good service. May be expensive but it is worth. Real local people, fantastic foods in very cosy place.

One of the most fameous fish restrounts in bosphorus. You can feel the tradition of rakı drinking all around. I cant say that the food is the best but it is very good.

This is a typical example of Turkish fish restaurants. Serving all classical mezes and fish (fish types may vary according to the season), it is always secured that i is fresh and well cooked. The prices area also reasonable compared to what you get. You should be lucky to get a table with direct bosphorus view.

Ismet baba is a traditional "meyhane" or "Taverna" as the greeks may call with very fresh seafood and starters "meze". if you have the chance to sit on a table near the window if you go without reservation, or by reservation, you'll breath the bosphorus freshness and entertain yourself with the passing boats up and down the busy waterway. Much... More

I called the restaurant to make reservation, they invited us to arrange a table when we arrive. Arrived waited for about 45 min. The chief waiter Mr. Dursun treated us very unpolitely and left the place!!!

This was recommended to us then we saw it on a Rick Stein program so travelled by ferry to this side of the city. We walked but would recommend you take a taxi from the ferry - it will be easier to find. Well supported by the locals, we were welcomed like old friends. Food is simple but authentic and... More

Staying in Uskudar

Neighbourhood Profile
Home to more than half a million residents, Uskudar on the Asian side of the Bosphorus is one of Istanbul’s most densely populated neighbourhoods. Once a Greek colony, later a haven for people from across the Mediterranean and the Middle East, this gateway to Asia has been an active and diverse hub for eons. Still, visitors to Uskudar are often more overcome by its myriad treasures than by its many thousand residents. And with fairytale settings such as the “Maiden’s Tower” as well as grand examples of Ottoman Era architecture, plenty of parks, a gorgeous and lengthy coastline, and some of Turkey’s holiest sites, there’s no end to the sightseeing possibilities. Easily reached from the city’s European shores via a steady network of ferries, time spent in Uskudar reveals a “real life” Istanbul that many who experience find extremely fascinating.
