As part of our study abroad we ate at this restaurant almost every day for lunch. The food was consistently delicious and the owners clearly put a lot of love into their cooking. The meals varied every day but we always got bread, soup, an entree, and tea. It is unfortunate to hear that after 40 years the owners are... More

It was snowing and we hoped to find a nice heated restaurant, but this cute little Turkish place was cold. Fortunately the food warmed us up and it tasted very well, especcialy the lentil soup!

We visited Hisko for dinner. It is a lovely family-run small cafe/restaurant. The service was good, the food was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. Would highly recommend the chicken shish kebab and the baklava.

My boyfriend no I went there twice in September as this restaurant was very close to our hotel. The first time it seemed fine. The second time, it took a very long time to be served. My boyfriend, who is Turkish, thought the soup was quite average and not quite as advertised. When it came time to pay, the man... More

The owner is a dear, who welcomed us with a smile and moved very quickly to bring us our order. I had my favourite, the lemonade. Husband had Aryan (local, salty yoghurt drink) -it wasn't bad. Glad I got to try it as well. I tried the lentil soup as a starter. It makes me think of mum's haleem. Make... More

After visiting the Museum of Innocence in Istanbul we happened upon this charming, but modest restaurant with fresh, home cooked kebabs, lamb, beans, stuffed peppers at incredibly modest prices. The woman who waits on the tables cooks the food and is delightfully friendly and helpful. One would be hard pressed to find a better value or better tasting food. I... More

Staying in Beyoglu

Neighbourhood Profile
Beyoglu
Istanbul’s most famous street, pedestrianized Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), throbs day and night and offers a fantastic array of architectural sights, shops, treats, and throngs upon teeming throngs of people. At the avenue’s northeastern end is expansive Taksim Square, thought by many to be the very heart of the city, with many of Turkey’s most renowned restaurants and some of Europe’s most happening nightlife in close proximity. In striking contrast, Beyoglu’s less trafficked areas – such as the affluent Cihangir and the antiques district of Cukurcuma – exude Old World charm and provide contemplative calm and splendid diversion via an assortment of cozy cafes, attractive boutiques, and quiet lanes.
