Was recommended by a Vietnamese friend of mine and certainly lived up to the standard. Lovely selection of food and proper Vietnamese food. A must visit if you want to try Vietnamese food. little on the expensive side but worth the price.

My husband and I take all of our visitors to Chim Sao because it's our favorite restaurant for Vietnamese food. The food is always consistently delicious and we enjoy the ambiance. We reserve the tables downstairs for older guests and the floor seating upstairs for the younger ones. Our favorites are banana flower salad, fried eggplant with garlic, grilled mountain... More

Good choice on a busy Valentines night. Full of locals and with a variety of unusual dishes. We didn't try the tortoise!

Our guide book described this as boho-chic. Not really sure what that means but it sounded different and it was. Located in an old house that exuded fairly Spartan character, we sat downstairs at a table, although we did venture upstairs to find that the layout was entirely cushions with very low tables. The atmosphere downstairs was helped by a... More

This restaurant requires a short taxi ride from the old quarter but it is definitely worth it. We jad the fresh shrimp spring rolls as a starter and they were very good. We also order the Chim Bam Xuc Phong Tom minced pigeon with crispy prawn crackers and Trau Xao Rau Muong buffalo sauteed with morning glory. The buffalo wss... More

Worked in Hanoi for over 2 years. Would visit Chim Sao biweekly with friends for their delicious small plates so you can have a taste of several different things rather than just one gigantic meal. Good prices for the quality of the food. Easy 15 min walk from Hotel Metropole.

Perfect place to discover local food! It was really a place where l would send anyone. Though it need some cleaning in the room! Food is clean but the walls and the rest needs some maintenance. Otherwise l would give 5 rating. Service is very good! Go and discover! I prefered to sit on the 1st floor to be more... More

Upon arriving in Hanoi we were starving and took our chances heading out to Chim Sao, and thank goodness we did. The restaurant is off an ally (a good Vietnam sign), decorated beautifully, full of friendly staff, and serves up delicious food. The menu is small plate style, allowing you to try many different things; the way I like to... More

Beautiful small restaurant in a quiet side street. Food was both authentic and excellent. Service was also very good. Highly recommended.

I just cannot find words to describe this secret treasure in Hanoi. Get upstairs in the first place. This was pure magic. You lay on the floor, jazz music playing along, old paintings swinging, and fine vietnamese cuisine for you to enjoy. I remember coming even though I was very ill, as I really needed to eat something and rest.... More
