One of the best dishes that I ate not just in Hanoi but all of Vietnam. Most people know about Pho and Bun Cha but this is a huge staple in Hanoi. It’s fresh, flavorful, and just delicious. A must try if you get the...chance.More

There are so many Cha ca restaurants in Hanoi. However, Cha ca Thang Long at 1st Duong Thanh is my most favorite place to arrive. Cha ca is so full of goodness and it tastes pretty good too. Helpful staff, good service. We can eat...3 set for 2 person :))More

Cha Cha is an authentic Hanoian dish and can be traced back to the Doan family, who used to cook it for their neighbours in the nineteenth century. It consists of 'ca lang' or cat fish that is first marinated in herbs and then fried...with further herbs and spring onion in a light oil. Nha Hang Cha Cha is especially popular with locals but also with tourists. In fact, they have three separate restaurants in the same area, and all three are usually packed. This is a must when you visit Hanoi. Excellent food, very attentive service at a low cost.More

"Chả cá" (tumeric fish, dill and scallions) is a specialty dish in Hanoi. This restaurant capitalize on the famous "Chả Cá Lã Vọng" which is the oldest restaurant in Vietnam that serve this type of dish. For me, the dish at both restaurants are average...at best. However, the original one give you the bragging rights for having eaten at the oldest restaurant in Vietnam... This particular restaurant is average at best!More

Cha ca was on our list of iconic HaNoi dishes to try, and this was the most often recommended restaurant. The decor was more upscale and atmosphere less chaotic than other spots we'd eaten - a clear nod to tourists, who filled the restaurant when...we were there. Prices higher than a typical Ha Noi restaurant, but still very cheap by Western standards. The fish is firm and sweet, tastes a lot like catfish, which I like. The dill is surprisingly tender, this is a combination I'd try again. We had the set menu, which includes a drink (despite the wine bottles on display, wine is not one of the drinks included) and dessert - which was fruit.More

This is a very popular Cha Ca (tumeric fish) restaurant for locals and tourists. My husband really enjoyed the meal and it was one of his favourites on our holiday. The service is brisk and organised and food was indeed yummy and a fun experience....I cannot award a higher rating due to the hygiene practices of the staff. One waiter had a bundle of chopsticks in his hand and placed the whole lot on his bottom lip as he spoke, just before distributing them amongst the table woks (not ours thankfully). The chopsticks were used to cook the fish and vegetables. Other staff did not wash hands after clearing dirty plates and cutlery from neighbouring tables and before re-setting the tables - they used bared hands to push/wipe all rubbish off the table and directly into a bin. Don't look up or else you will see the saggy ceiling which looks like it is as strong as wet cardboard.More

Came to this restarant for dinner on a friend's recommendation. It serves only 1 dish, tumeric snake head or mudfish (it did have a faint muddy taste), fried with vegetables including dill. Our hotel staff told us to look for such 1 dish speciality restaurant...as they will naturally be good at it, and she is right. This is the first time my travel companies and I tried tumeric fish and we enjoyed the dish. We were clueless on how to cook the fish and its accompanying vegetables and the staff promptly came and helped us with the cooking and then dished out for each one of us. The set included 1 drink and dessert of banana. At about USD8, it was a bit on the expensive side. But we will recommend to friends to try it as this is not something we can find back home.More

One item on the menu and done exceedingly well.. no wonder people flock to this place. If you want a break from Pho you have been gorging on, visit Cha Ca Thang Long to give your taste buds a totally unexpected treat. Fish, rice noodles...with ample of turmeric and dill being cooked at your table, it is a treat for your eyes and tummy. Fast service along with demonstration on how to eat it makes the visit thoroughly enjoyable. Highly recommend.More

Ate here last night and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Service is rapid and well planned, but with good humour (if you interact rather than ignore the staff) They charge 160K dong per person for the food and either a beer or soft drink (about £5)...the waiter we had was very helpful and not only showed us to cook the various ingredients together but continued to return and cook more. The resulting cooked dish of marinated chunks of fish, vegetables herbs etc was very pleasant. Very pleasant experienceMore

Loved it so much we went twice. There is only one thing served here and they do it right. A fun place where they cook (or you cook your own) fish, vegetables and herbs right at the table. The combination of flavours is delicious! A...very popular spot so go early or just hang out and wait for a table. You probably won’t have to wait long. We had great service. Also, when someone started smoking close to us, they asked them to go outside.More
