I came in expecting a culinary feast and left experiencing a buyer's remorse. While the atmosphere and design of the restaurant are five stars, the reason for coming here is to feast our taste buds, not our eyes. Therefore, I was excited to be presented...with a menu explaining the history of the restaurant, pictures of all ingredients and a vast selection of Thai dishes. I chose stir-fry beef with lemongrass and basil as my lunch choice. Before it was served to me, I was offered two amuse bouche dishes, peach soda and a different one (don't remember the name). They were beautifully presented and tasted delicious, so my anticipation was kicked into a higher level. It came quickly crashing down after tasting the beef. It was chewy and hard, totally not what I expected given the initial impression of the restaurant. The vegetable ingredients tasted fine but lacked the local flavor I tasted in other, smaller restaurants and food stalls. I had mango cake as a dessert which was good but not very memorable. Average, like the rest of the food. Given the high price (don't forget to add 12% extra on top of that for VAT and "service charge"), I believe I rightfully expected a much better quality of food and service. Speaking of service, it's non-existent. As an American, I know that I cannot expect the high level of service like we get in the USA but given the price of food, I thought the waiters would be trained better. They barely spoke to me, didn't smile, never asked how the food was or if I needed more water. Having written all of this, I'm almost surprised to give this restaurant 3/5 stars. But its average food deserves average rating. I'd recommend that you SKIP this place and instead choose any other small local restaurant that will charge you one third of the price (yes, one third) and give you 100% more value for your money and taste buds.More
