Fantastic place to chill out. This is one place where you get more local patronising than tourist. If you need to dance off, they have disco as well.

Monkey Club used to be THE happening place near CMU. It seems to have lost some of its appeal, but still a very pleasant place. Crowded with young people. Usually good music and reasonable food. Prices are a bit steep, but not unreasonable for this type of place.

it's a nice place. Good live band playing mostly Thai covers, which is a plus from my side. This is a typical place where young Thai adults will go out. Food was a bit dull, prices quite high, but not more than normal for a similar spot. All in all it was ok, but I personally prefer Warm up Cafe,... More

This place is the second most popular place around Chiang Mai University. It is separated into 3 sections and full of young Thais listening to really loud music. Everything is cheap and they do have a lot of parking. Not many Westerners head over this way, but it is a nice change of pace from the tourists spots. You will... More

It's packed, loud, a little expensive but a welcome change from the normal back packer / tourist orientated bars around the moat. I went on. Friday night at the end of the month and it seemed like the whole of Chiang Mai university was inside, gyrating to the latest hits, updating their status on their smart phones & knocking back... If, like me, you prefer an area that is tourist friendly, but not overloaded with Westerners, the sois off of Nimannhemin street are ideal. The Monkey club is on Soi 9 near the Starbucks. This club is alfresco, which is ideal for Chiangmai's generally pleasant evening weather. There is also an indoor area with a separate band playing. The club... More

This was recommended by our hotel. It is definitely a scene with loud music, so just be in the mood for that. The salads we had were definitely the spiciest we had in Chiang Mai - they were great! The rest of the meal was delicious as well, but the salads truly stood out!
