We visited the Chinese and Indian quarter of Bangkok and were looking for some place to have lunch. The place looked promising from outside. We detected soon this is a place for bigger tourist groups which are here together with their guide. The place is noisy. The food we ordered was not very good. The spring roles were soaking wet... Booked the trip through hotel and it seemed ideal on paper but on arrival we were seated hurriedly and then offered our only drink for the night and promptly served entree closely followed by main course and desert in very quick succession three course within less than one hour. It all felt very rushed no offer of second drink tables... More

This a an enormous tourist money extraction system. The facility is 3 stories of chairs and tables. It's Huge! We were on a tour with Vantage. They promised a small restaurant for lunch. We got a food factory. We made drink selection fro a wheelbarrow at the end of the table. The food was nothing special- less than average. Avoid

We boarded the river boat on Christmas Eve - booked the trip through our hotel Banyan Tree with certain expectation. The food here is a very ordinary Thai food you can get in a very ordinary Thai restaurant in California - no way can they match the quality that we experienced in the Tealicious or Saffron restaurants for the past... I had the set seafood menu as I love my seafood but I could only eat about one third it was so bad. My wife had the other set menu and it was no better she left at least fifty percent untouched. Being a captive audience you know you are going to be touched with your drinks but they took... More

Ok so we paid 1450 Bhat per person plus drinks for this evening. Pickup promptly at 6 as promised, but we hit major traffic and 6 minute trip from Pathumwan Princess to dock took 1 hour. Very scary drive, no seatbelts. Despite driver being constantly phoned, boat had left when we arrived. Eventually the boat turned back and collected us,... More

The free fruit was adequate. Too much emphasis to make us taste the local whiskey. We couldn't hear or understand the guide. Floating market was two women peddling their wares in canoes. Not worth the money at all.

Be sure to sit on the deck so that you can observe the river life. I ended up here because i was exhausted and really needed a break.....it was a happy choice because of the lovely view. The prices are not cheap by Bangkok prices, and the food is average; however, plenty of vegetarian choices and alcohol. This seems to... More

Staying in Chinatown / Yaowarat

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown / Yaowarat
Better known as 'Yaowarat' among locals, Chinatown is Bangkok's bustling district that never sleeps. During the day, the main street and its small alleyways are filled with a vibrant mix of colours, scents and flavours coming from the roadside restaurants and all-day markets. The real action, however, happens after sunset. Surrounded by neon lights, Thais and tourists alike flock here around dinnertime to feast on some of the best street food in town. Escape the chaos by venturing a little further from the main road and discover hidden shrines, friendly locals and daily life in its purest form.
