I am not sure what Angan location I tried, but I told my friend I wanted to try some authentic Indian/Nepali food (emphasizing street food). While this restaurant doesn't exactly serve street foods, it does serve classic Indian snacks. We essentially tried 1-2 of everything...and it was all really good. I felt like I was in heaven, eating plenty of Indian treats that you would not readily find in the USA. Another thing I enjoyed was seeing nothing but locals coming in & out of the restaurant... this is a no frills spot that doesn't draw out many tourists (but it should). I found the quality of the food to be good, the portions were generous, and despite those complaining about the prices in reviews below... we found them to be very fair. 3 of us ate a large lunch/dessert here (with leftovers, which fed a 4th person) and the cost was under $20 USD.More
Angan is the best place for vegetarian eaters because one can indulge in all chatpata foods alongwith sweets and other cold drinks. Their Jalebis are simply yummy and mouth watering, one of its kind which you will never get anywhere. Do tickle your taste buds...there.More
The menu has both South and North Indian dishes. We ate here twice last year and somehow during that time it did not seem to be so disgustingly dirty. This time during lunch time on a festival day of Nepal we were shocked to see...how unhealthy the practices are. The guy putting Gulabjamun in the container and sealing these up was using his BARE HANDS. Then as we were eating quite mediocre food they stared cleaning the floor. The entire process was a nightmare. We almost ran away leaving food behind which we never do. Never again to this place.More
We were recommended to go here to try the South Indian food. It did not disappoint. The food was good, the drinks were ok and the server tried very hard to keep the place and tables clean. I would recommend this place.
Worst service. Price too high. Food quality under average. Staff ignores your complains. It's was worst experience and ruined my family time
They have all of the South Indian varieties in Sweets and Snacks. Good place to catch up on South Indian Food when in Kathmandu.
I went to the location in Lazimpat. I was happy with the idlis, uttapaam. The dosas looked wonderful but I didn't try them.
We stumbled upon Angan as it was close to our hotel. We looked through the window and saw good looking dishes of food. The place was crowded and we made a mental note to try it. No one spoke English but we pointed to the...dish we wanted and the guy showed us what we wanted called Chhola bhatura. order and pay for your meal and they bring it to your table when it is ready. It came with two puffy breads and chana masala. It was delicious. Granted the staff is not friendly initially but after our third visit, they recognized us and all was well. Service is quick. There is a sink to wash your hands after the meal if necessary. Cheap eats and god for vegetarians. There is also a bakery where you can buy sweets.More
Great vegetarian food. North and South Indian food and sweets. value for money. prices are reasonable. Found a great place when family was starving to find a vegetarian food in Pokhara area.
Good quality food, fresh, healthy. Great vegetarian options. The ambience isn't great, and the service is pretty unfriendly. But good food at good prices. Just don't have high expectations of service or the cleanliness of a good restaurant.
If you are pure vegetarian and you are in Nepal, then Angan is the best option to have good Indian food. The food quality is good only problem is availability of the food when you need it the most.
We visited Angan restaurant both at Khatmandu and Pokhara in Nepal. At Pokhara the restaurant has more variety of pure vegetarians dishes compared to Khatmandu. However tast, quality of food is excellent at both the places.
I was really disappointed with this place when I came here after seeing it on Happy Cow. The restaurant itself is pretty depressing and uninviting. The staff were polite but pretty stand off ish and I had to go up to the counter to order...my food. On top of this they didn't have a lot of the food that was on the menu, and I was pretty much told what I could have to eat! The food was nice, but nothing special and I'm pretty sure there are far better places to eat at in Kathmandu- even if you are vegan! This place can definitely be missed in my opinion.More
