If you're coming to Fez, do yourself a favour stay or dine here. This is a magical place.
My friend and I decided after lockdown to take a trip. We have been friends for 40 years, and have never travelled together. Morocco was the destination we decided upon.
Our stop in Fez included a stay at Riad 53. From the moment we passed through the ornate front door into the beautiful courtyard, we felt as though we had been transported into another world.
We were greeted with a warm smile and an invitation to sit in the courtyard, where we were brought mint tea, and lovely pastries, while our bags were brought to our room.
The courtyard is bathed in sunlight that shines down through the atrium roof. A huge Moroccan chandelier makes a bold statement, complementing the carved plaster and mosaic walls. Wrough iron scrollwork covers shuttered windows that open to look down upon the courtyard.
Our room was the perfect mix of old world charm and modern amenities. Mosaic tile floors, plastered walls with inlaid woodwork. The large windows, with wooden shutters open to allow tons of natural light to flood the room. The shutters can be closed for privacy, with the addition of floor to ceiling drapes. The effect is not only comfortable but very beautiful! Modern comforts include working AC, a room safe, luxurious linens (I love great sheets) and a very comfortable bed. The bathroom has plenty of hot water and pressure. Once the door closed, after we were shown to our room, these two middle aged ladies did the giddy school girl dance!
If the accommodations weren't enough, we decided to eat at the riad restaurant on the roof terrace. Our meal was spectacular. We selected traditional Moroccan dishes from the menu, which did not disappoint.
To top all this off, the service was excellent!. Everyone was incredibly attentive to our needs. You can tell they are proud of this place and love sharing it with their guests.
The blue gate is a short walk, which was convenient for an after-dinner stroll through the souks.
I give Riad 53 my highest recommendation, and will do my best to return here soon.

2 "The moment I stepped in, I was captivated by the restaurant's open and inviting atmosphere. It's like a little oasis in the middle of the city."
Last night's dinner was a journey into the heart of tradition. The authenticity of the dishes combined with a modern touch was an experience to remember

This nicely situated rooftop restaurant in Fes serves traditional Morrocan dishes. This time we selected a delicious cous cous. Personally, I would have preferred a bit more spices, but it was well cooked.
Staff are friendly.

We found ourselves unexpectedly heading up to the terrace of this riad. The views were pleasant & the waiter was very friendly. However, the food was abysmal. I didn't want to have traditional Moroccan food for the second night in a row, so opted for fajitas instead. What I received was a large, dry taco that was tasteless. The frozen chips were overcooked. I left half of it. A family member chose the hamburger (also tasteless & burnt chips) & the seafood pastilla was awful. The only positive was my harira soup. The Cokes were priced at 30 MAD - ridiculously overpriced. Do not recommend.

Food more or less OK but we waited 3/4 of an hour to be served Our 2 dishes were served with a 15 minute gap between the two and more had made a mistake in the order. Additionally, the bill was incorrect. The chicken tagine was overcooked. In short, that’s a lot for one meal….

Lured by the reviews and the terrace as well as the proximity to my riad, I decide to book even though it seems clear to me that there has been a complete lack of reviews for a year now. Well... it's a place frequented by young locals, mostly for aperitifs or early evening, pub style on the terrace (naturally without alcohol).
The food is not bad but the service leaves something to be desired and frankly I don't feel like recommending it for a dinner, because there is better around

We visited this restaurant riad last month, and we were shocked by the terrible level of the waitress. She did not understand any language of what we were talking about, and everything we wanted to order, she did not know, not did she know its ingredients. And the worst of that, she kept mocking us with laughter. In the end, We took this burnt plate , I do not advise anyone to go to There because the treatment is outrageous The place was amazing and beautiful but not worth these 👎🏻

Sorry - no pictures of the food since it was so delicious and good looking that we were more occupied with digging into it than picture it.
We rushed in, 18 people, and they managed with all the engagement we were looking for.
Great menu card whether you are up for local food or just need a discrete burger. Lovely people, great food, beautiful view combined with light and fresh air. Book your table before others take your place - it’s serious business so remember cash

Beautiful setting with delicious food and helpful and attentive staff. Close walk to our riad. Great menu with a variety of foods prepared to our liking. Relaxing atmosphere after a long day shopping in the Medina. Nice rooftop dining area which we didn’t experience as it was too cold to sit outside.
Harira soup was delicious as was the yalla yalla. Good French fries too!
Everyone was friendly and kind! Would definitely go back!

This did not live up to the reviews. Neither the food nor ambiance were impressive. The Moroccan salads were tasty but delivered with the main course. The couscous main courses were bland. We wished we had followed our guide’s advice on this occasion and gone elsewhere.

We had a chicken fajita, club sandwich and falafel wrap. All served pretty quickly. Everything tasted good and the price/ quality ratio is very good! The waiters were very nice. I’d recommend the restaurant to anyone in Fes!
