Every sandwich I've gotten from Downtown Deli has been my favorite sandwich. The meat & cheese is freshly cut, the "fixings" on top are spot on, and the bread is fresh. It's a no frills sandwich shop which is one of the best sandwich shops in town.

They offer a rye roll which I love! Fresh subs with all the fixins you would want. Fresh made salads, soups and deserts also! The owner makes a connection with his customers and this makes Downtown Deli even more special. Go before noon or the line is nuts. True testament to a great local spot for lunch.

If you go here for lunch most likely the line will be out the door.....that should tell you something. This place is great! Try the rueben sandwich. My kids love it here.

Been eating here since shortly after it opened. This is the deli you want to go to in Ames - not Jimmy John's, not Subway, not West Street Deli, not even Depot Deli. The bread here is fantastic (if you get in first thing at 10 AM wait for the fresh shipment), the ingredients are high quality, the particulars are... More

I went in for a sandwich and came out with a chef salad. This food is really fresh-sliced right when you place your order by very friendly staff. It's a small clean place. Marcydiner tantrum scale of 5/5-no screaming kids. This place embodies what small town Iowa really is!

Great soup and sandwiches to eat there or take with you. Quiet/small shop so you can hear your friends talk. good food.

An excellent deli. Like every deli, it's going to be as good as the ingredients you pick and the quality of ingredients the deli has on hand. Downtown Deli has had excellent and fresh ingredients every time I have visited. Additionally the staff at this deli have always been friendly and welcoming, and they seem to enjoy their job making... More

Downtown deli sandwiches are so much better than the chain restaurants provide. You can watch as they cut your meat and cheese fresh vs. the frozen paper wrapped items from those others.

There's a small deli shop on Main Street in Ames, IA, that satisfies cravings for a soup & sandwich. The Downtown Deli is an unassuming storefront that you might miss if you didn't know it was there. But it's a popular place for locals to have lunch. The Wisconsin Cheese soup was creamy, cheesy and tasty. The pastrami sandwich was... More
