This low-key family-run restaurant is a good place to try out guatemalan specialities--like pepian, jocote, mole, and others. Very flavorful.

Our favorite restaurant by far in Xela. Very good and well prepared Guatemalan dishes (Jocom, Pepián, etc.) served by polite wait staff. Family owned restaurant, look for grandmother to stop in. Not to be missed if you are staying in Xela.
This is an excellent, friendly, family-run restaurant where you can taste the distinct flavors of various traditional sauces with well prepared meats. We had a family style meal and tried four dishes among three people -- all were great. Eat whatever the family recommends!
Went here to refuel after a reasonably challenging climbing day on volcán Santa María. Great food here! They have great juices to try and their portions are plenty filling to this gringo:-). Their pepían is the best! The service is attentive. Had to laugh when getting ready to use the restroom. Make sure you notice the low bridge on the... More
Sunday is the day when I have to get out and find a place to eat in Xela. I am doing homestay in Xela. I take Sunday as an opportunity to explore eateries in the city. I am glad I tried this place. This place is quite local and serves typical Guatemalan food. The staff is very friendly and happy... More
We visited Utz Hua after a recommendation from friends of mine who enjoyed their meal. The prices seemed reasonable (I wouldn't say cheap though) and the portion sizes were perfect. We had two of the Pepian dishes and as we hadn't tried these yet were very happy with what we got served. Big portions of chicken in a rich and... More
This review is for Utz Hua one block west of Central Park. I'm not aware of the other one(s) mentioned in the other reviews. Anyways, location is great. Breakfast was reasonably priced (15-25Q). I live in Guatemala so I've had a ton of local breakfast. Best oatmeal (avena mosh), beans, champurrada, eggs with salsa, fresh-squeezed orange juice (they squeeze it... More
I use this restaurant every time I come to Quetzaltenango. The restaurant is near the square and offers lot of options at very reasonable price. The service is nice, do not expect nothing fancy but tasty and good option if you are in a budget. Great restaurants in Quetzaltenango are not my choices. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone... More
