If you want to find homecooked-like-food in Guatemala, you have to visit Albamar in Quetzaltenango or in its place in Retalhuleu. Excelent breakfasts, nice coffee.

There are at least 5 Albamar restuarants in Xela. They serve good food for a good price and consistent high quality. Good clean bathrooms! I love the breakfasts, but they are open all day.

We joined friends for a birthday lunch, and as usual, the food was great, the service was amazing and although we were right in front of the double marimba (which is played live every day) the conversations were really good. Normally I have either the smoked pork chops or the pipian chicken, but this time I had the "Caldo Tlalpaka... More

I've visited this place multiple times since 2005. I've come with my direct family and extended family and enjoyed food poolside as well as in the dining area. The pool is better during non peak times from June-September. Once kids are out of school in Guatemala in late October/early November it's always packed by the pool and there is often... More

At first sight this place looks like a fast food outlet as when you look in the door you can see the cooking area and only one table, however it is much bigger inside. The restaurant was recommended by 2 different locals so we thought we'd give it a go even if first impressions pit us off. My partner had... More

This is my favorite restaurant in Quetzaltenango! My favorite food is the Caldo Tilapeño. All three meals are served and anything you order is good! This restaurant also has great fried chicken and wonderful typical food. They have a marimba band that plays often and really sets the mood for a great Guatemalan meal!

We love Albamar for many reasons. The food is terrific, always hot and fresh, well prepared and with good sized (NOT American overkill) portions. The prices are good too, There are several Albamars in Xela, and we usually go to the one on the Cuesta Blanca, which has a huge, really fun-looking play yard for kids, with slides, areas to... One enters the restaurant through the restaurant's private playground. the tall slides are exciting for older children and teens, but a little scary for younger children. The restaurant offers a large variety of typical Guatemalan foods. Breakfast is offered throughout the day. I began with the houses "Special Soup." I did not enjoy. It was a bowl of grease with... Had breakfast here with my wife and a friend on 19 Feb 2015. Located right on the city square. Very good service in a beautifully decorated open dining room. Bright and sunny. Breakfast menu is heavy on egg dishes. Big screen TV mounted on the dining room wall played cartoons the entire time we were there. I liked that but... More

You can find typical guatemalan food and some american foo here, whatever you choose to eat will taste great, if you don't see it in the menu ask if they can make it for you, chances are they will. In Xela they make some dishes slightly different than the rest of the country so if you have a favorite food... More
