Food is always fresh. No imitation crab in their rolls. I think the son is the sushi chief and he is wonderful. Kind of small, but we'll worth the trip.

This is one small (yet cozy) restaurant on Solano just off of San Pablo. Don't know how we missed it for all these years. But glad we had a craving for Japanese the other night and all the research pointed to Sugata. Appetizers consisting of...More
Sugata has been my favorite since before I moved into the neighborhood in 2009. The Endo family, owners and cooks, have become more than restauranteurs in my life; Mrs Endo is like my aunt. The food is consistently delicious, with home-cooked flavors from my mom's...More
Set in a lovely and traditional Japanese environment, the soup and sushi were delicious. The meticulous preparation for each item was impressive. The server was prompt and alert.

After the lovely warmed Saki and the delicious Japanese meal, we left the restaurant with a smile. The Japanese food was beautifully prepared, and the delightful Japanese decor was perfect. A quiet atmosphere for a busy restaurant. The Saki helped us wait for the slow...More
And by typical I mean it as a complement. After 35 years Endosan is handing off to Endokun - being the son - but he goes by Chikara- his first name. Used to be 100% traditional but now the son is finally being allowed to...More
Good place for a first-timer to try Japanese tradional foods. Nothing fancy, just plain good food . They'll even give you a fork if you really can't handle chop sticks!!
Chikara, the sushi 'chef' at Sugata, always has something special to recommend; he is especially great with his recommendations, once, he gets to know your tastes for fish. The food at Sugata has a very, very authentic flavor; it very much, reminds me of food,...More
Having placed our order and waited 40 minutes we asked after our food. After waiting twenty more minutes we complained and we left. With so few tables it's hard to understand how a table for two could be overlooked for so long.
