The best! I would return to D.C. Just for another meal. Quaint building, great ambiance, servers are great, the food excellent! The chicken pot pie is amazing.

Went to a late brunch after mass at Georgetown. Wanted the quiche but they were out. Love biscuits so opted for the scrambled eggs biscuits cheese bacon and sausage. Bad choice the cheese was melted then had hardened. The eggs dry, and the sausage like a hockey puck. Wish they had said brunch was over. Obviously the kitchen thought so.... More

In this dark underground restaurant you'll find plenty of good eats and drinks. We were lucky to be there for happy hour. Their service was amazing. Expect pub food with a great drink or a good beer. Props to Griffin our server and even greater props to Bruno the manager for orchestrating happy hour smoothly!

Our group decided to come to The Tombs since it was close to Georgetown Cupcake and because we were stuck in D.C. for a few extra days due to flight cancellations. This restaurant did not disappoint. Our server James was amazing and was very attentive to our group. We tried the duck egg rolls and crab & artichoke dip for... More

We've been to other properties owned by this group and their staff is always well trained. Our server, Emma, and one of the Managers, Bruno, went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. As incoming parents at Georgetown, we will be spending a lot of time there in the next 4 years and will be frequent guests after the... More

The Tombs is an old classic Georgetown neighborhood restaurant. It is located at the corner of 36 street and Prospect street close to the old Car Barn and the Exorcist Steps a little away from the busy Georgetown Wisconsin and M streets. Classic old place with good food and nicely dressed staff. Plenty of places at the bar for solo... More

Based upon the friends we were with, the Tombs is a Georgetown tradition. The food is good, but a but on the pricey side for burgers. With tax, tip, burger and soft drink, expect $20/person. The service is good. My brother had fries with his burger and I had the tater tots. The tots were a much better choice.

I stopped by with my wife for lunch. I will admit that I first came here forty years ago. It was right across the street from the old SFS offices and classrooms (now in Red Square). The only drawback to the place was that I had to hand carry my wife's walker down the stairs. There is no elevator. The... More

The Tombs is a good place to hang out with friends, have a good time, good food, while you are in Georgetown neighbourhood. You feel like been in college guy again. Hamburgers and sandwiches are tasty and delicious. Salads are good too. Not pretensions and lives you with a good felling.

Stopped by after taking my high school son to tour the campus. It was really crowded and took a long time for our food but the server did apologize several times. When it came, the burgers were very good. And the atmosphere was great - you can see why it is a Georgetown tradition.

Description
Situated on the edge of Georgetown University's campus, The Tombs is a neighborhood restaurant by day and a popular gathering place for Georgetown students by night. Along with 1789 and F. Scott's, The Tombs rounds out a trio of restaurants built in a Federal-style townhouse dating from the mid-1800s. When Georgetown alumnus Richard McCooey founded The Tombs in 1962, he named it after a mention in T.S. Eliot's poem "Bustopher Jones: The Cat About Town." Whether its students watching a Hoya basketball game, Georgetown alumni sharing a pitcher of lager or neighbors enjoying Sunday brunch after visiting Holy Trinity Church, The Tombs traditions run deep.
