It had been 6 years since I had last been here and I am sorry it took this long to come back. My first time was amazing, this time was amazing, and I do not plan to let such a large gap between visits ever...happen again. We had a fairly large group, 7 plus a high chair, and they were able to get us in about 8:30 pm, which worked for us due to some other time conflicts. You see the Italian grandmother in the window hand making pasta and you just know you are in for a good meal. I knew how good this was going to be and I was excited for the others in my group to experience it. The bread with tomato is a great first step in the meal, but you also do not want to fill up on bread as there is so much going to come your way in mind blowing food. We had a calamari plate, a caprese with fresh burrata, arancini - fried risotto balls with cheese and lobster, and a lot of sharing and passing. Each was fresh, very tasty, and made people smile as they ate. I would have to say the caprese was the best appetizer we had and one in our group said they could just do a whole dinner of that. For our main dishes, a few ordered sea bass, one salmon, one bone in ribeye steak, and the lobster ravioli. I got to trade a taste of lobster ravioli for a taste of sea bass. It was delicate and so not-fishy at all while also being melt in your mouth good. My ravioli did just as promised - a punch of lobster cream sauce over large pillows of ricotta cheese with lobster meat inside. I had a tiramisu for dessert as did a few others. It is light and airy with layers of the perfect pastry cream between layers of lady fingers. It has to be the best tiramisu anywhere. The after dinner drinks were well received and wonderful. Nico was a great waiter with just the right balance of friendliness and sarcasm while making great suggestions. You have to come here at least once - just make it happen.More

Make sure you have a reservation for this one. The historic restaurant is a must try. The food is good, the service is good and the visit is memorable.

The food was overall good, but not matching the level of relatively high prices. But lots of people and seems like a popular place. We got curious because of a pasta making woman in the street window.

The atmosphere and the food is amazing for teenagers and adults. The restaurant like most restaurants around DC is not family friendly which is a real shame. It would be very simple to have a kids size pasta on the menu with a smaller meatball...or sausage. I even ordered the $18 appetizer with 2 meatballs thinking they would throw some spaghetti on it for my daughter but no. I was told to order the spaghetti instead of what I wanted so I could share it with her.More

The food here was incredible. Lots of seafood-based dishes, which makes sense considering it's in Washington DC. The prices were reasonable, too. You can spend $150 per person or $60...depends on what you decide. The homemade pasta is absolutely perfect. It can get busy -...make sure to get reservations. Best Italian not just in Georgetown or in DC, but probably in the mid-Atlantic region. I'll go so far as to say it might be a Top Ten Italian restaurant in the entire country!More

I wanted to give this restaurant 5 stars because the food was outstanding. However, I can only give it 3 due to the service. I ordered an alcoholic drink when we got there. All of food came out & we were already done eating completely....He then comes over 45 min later & said he had forgot my drink. At that point; what is the point. We are already done with our food. He brings me out the wrong drink & on the bill has the wrong drink. It was more expensive & he says they are the same cost so. No they weren't. The wrong drink was more expensive but I don't care about the cost- it is more about that principle & his attitude about it. What honestly is the point of a drink when your meal is over & your about to go. I didn't even drink the drink because our meal was over. If his attitude would have been different, I would have rated it better. I saw him standing around several times & im thinking im just going to skip it at this point. The food was outstanding & very cute inside.More

We are a family of five and dined at Filomena’s. The service was excellent and so was the food, however I would suggest that each meal can serve two people. Even the appetizers were large enough for a main course. Needless to say we had...a ton of leftovers. As to appetizer the Calamari a la Sicilia and the beet salad were delicious. All of the lasagna bolognese, agnolotti carbonara, salcito pasta and familiglia pasta (meatballs and sausages) were delicious as well. The hazelnut dessert and the eclair were outstanding.More

This was such a great Italian experience. The menu is short bust absolutely delicious. Veggie options are incredible and flavors as expected, no surprises. We went twice in the las 3 weeks so you can say we tried half of the menu, again delicious. Service...is not the best, but it’s manageable.More

Rude maitre d - only seated us when full party had arrived - despite the fact that three of a party of four were already present. Extremely noisy - impossible to carry on a conversation. Rushed service - spilled water on jacket sleeve. Spilled wine....Food was mediocre at best - cafeteria quality with premium pricing. Large portions to justify high price are too much food even to share. Dark basement atmosphere with musty dank smell to top it off. Poor experience is generous.More

I was told my many locals that Filomena was THE place to enjoy the best Italian place in DC. They were absolutely right, my husband and I had a fabulous vegetarian meal meal whilst visiting. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the service was brilliant....Thank you Filomena for a lovely experience whilst visiting from the UK.More

Dining at Filomena Ristorante on Wisconsin Ave. in Georgetown was truly an adventure, if not a great dining experience. We entered from a narrow, street level front door that belies what was soon to unfold. After passing by a lovely lady sitting in a bygone...era kitchen who appeared to be making the pasta that would find its way to the restaurant's kitchen, we descended a flight of stairs and arrived at a surprisingly large, noisy, chaotic dining room packed with what appeared to be hundreds of diners (all of whom had made reservations), thousands of pieces of Italian and Patriotic American kitsch and enough floral arrangements to open a small florist shop. The constant buzz, charming Italian waiters and eclectic decor must be what keep customers coming back as the quality of the food, save for the desserts, is nothing special. The selection in the bread basket was no better than what can be found in a grocery store bakery section. The "Sunday Tomato Sauce", served with our three entrees, lacked depth of flavor and hardly lived up to what is recognized as such in Italian households. LaFamiglia (meatballs, sausage and ribs) and Pollo (chicken) Alla Parmigiana both were quite good, but the Pollo Alla Marsala was served with an uninspired wine reduction sauce and a scant amount of porcini mushrooms, very disappointing. The evening was not a total disappointment, however, as our very polished waiter helped us order two exceptional additions to our meals: a very good 2013 Montepulciano D'Abruzzo and the most delicious, and different, "cannoli" we ever had. Unlike the familiar stuffed cannoli tubes we were accustomed to, the Filomena Cannoli consisted of three flat cannoli wafers stacked with an incredibly delicious custard filling in between the layers. As our waiter explained to us, the original cannolis in Italy were served in this manner and not as tubes with piped in filling. While we will not forget the sights and sounds of Filomena, we are in no hurry to go back. More

Filomena’s in Georgetown was delicious! We had 3 friends recommend dining here and we’re glad we did! From the outside it looks like a tiny little place with someone making homemade pasta in the window! But you go downstairs to the main dining area and...everything changes! You go into a bustling area full of people enjoying themselves and enjoying their delicious meals! Extensive menu, homemade pasta and lots of wine choices! Our meals were delicious and we wish we could have fit one of their desserts from the bakery showcase! Have a nice little glass of amaretto at the end of our meal. Would absolutely go again! We felt like we were dining in Italy!More

This is going to be a long read. First riding past the place it is unassuming. It looks small like two average sized people can't walk through the door at the same time.. But when you walk in there is a little old lady in...a window to your your right that will wave to you as she is making some food. I wanted to ask her to blink twice if she was being held captive. But she looks happy. Anyway, you go down the stairs and there is a huge revolutionary war style cafeteria. Seriously, the decor needs a serious update. The house was packed. The noise was as loud as a revolutionary war battle. We (table of 5) got seated because we had a reservation. We had a really nice waiter named Kevin. He was the MVP. He was attentive, cordial, friendly, and hospitable. He brought us our drinks.. good enough. My hands got sticky from my drink. I asked if he had wipes. He said.. just table wipes.. He said he uses them on his hands. I was like.. no thanks.. its fine. I didn't really want those wipes that aren't meant for your skin.. i just dabbed some water on my cloth napkin and attempted to get the sticky off of them.. didn't really work, but i was gonna just deal with it. He left and we continued on with our convo.. This man came back with a lemon and a hot towel.. And he had the nerve to make it look cute too.. like he wrapped the towel into some sort of design.. and then apologized that he had not done that in a long time so he didn't think it looked good. Maaaaaann.. that was above and beyond... I was a huge fan of Kevin right there.. That is what I call service. I wasn't even expecting that. Onto the food. They brought out the bread.. it was some kind of tomato bread.. i think.. and then there was some other breads in there. I wasn't gonna fill up on the bread. I learned my lesson from going to restaurants in the past.. but i did try it. It was really good. It wasn't hot.. but thats fine. There was some herb olive oil that you can dip it into.. It was soo good might have been a 10 if the bread was hot. I ordered the la famigila .. I don't know how they spelled it.. but it had a "g" in it. It consisted of rotini noodles (but they called it something else) Italian sausage, meatballs, a short rib and I think what they call "Sunday Sauce" it was tomato based. It was ok. the homemade italian sausage was just ok. the meatballs were pretty good. I didn't even touch the short rib. I was full off the bread, drinks, and the appetizers..(guess i didn't learn my lesson) I forgot to tell you we got the best dang homemade mozzarella.. I can not go back to store bought mozzarella anymore.. It was a tomato and mozzarella and some herbs and some olive oil i believe. I want this all of the time. Like i could live off of this appetizer.. i forgot what it was called. We also had this ball.. i have no idea what it was.. but it was pretty good. except there was a weird.. i want to say.. light burnt taste to it.. but i would give that a 6/10. Anyway, I couldn't eat all of my food.. or even most of it.. Kevin, saw that we were all fat and full and he came by and asked if he could pack our food for us.. We happily complied and gave him our plates and he packed them.. or someone did.. He gave us our packed food. and we got some to go deserts.. Can't wait to try that tomorrow. The dinner I brought home is gonna last me about 3 days.. lol all in all, a dinner of 5, with drinks and take home deserts.. came to $500+, honestly.. i thought it would have been more.. all in all. Im coming back. I am going to bring my spouse back and try something different. Oh, parking garage is across the street. It was $22 for 2 and a half hours. Sorry for the long read. but if you took the time to read it.. thank you.More
