Best part about J. Paul's is the location. This isn't a dig at the food - that's great too - but a table next to the open window on a sunny G-town day is tough to beat, experience-wise. Burgers are great, beer is cold and...More

Food was fine. Nothing great. Service was good. They were out of ice cream so we did not want dessert which was very disappointing.

A very nice place to enjoy a quick evening with drinks and music. A fair selection of starters. Not too much though, especially for vegetarians. Friendly service but can be quicker than it was.

Thank you so much for your review. We've recognized the increase in vegetarian demands and have adjusted. Be sure to check us out with our upcoming menu change for more vegetarian/ vegan fairs. We look forward to your return! J.Paul's

Went with a group of 10 on a Saturday evening (graduation weekend in Washington). Food was OK, nothing bad, but nothing superlative either - just sort of run of the mill. Service was adequate. A couple of folks in our group ordered and tried the...More

This is a bar come dining room type restaurant. We sat by an open window at the front, which was lovely! They have a full drinks selection and comprehensive menu. As I watched a man shuck oysters, I just had to try some. It was...More

Title says it all. Went for lunch, it was crowded and noisy, food was mediocre at best but I was starving so at least that problem was solved. Our server seemed utterly disinterested and spilled some of my beer when he delivered it. He didn't...More

A large group of us from a conference headed out to a late night dinner here and I was pleasantly surprised. I was concerned that this would be some swanky, high end place, but it was surprisingly down to earth and enjoyable. The decor was...More

Super cool, quaint spot with sweet decor and a menu that has something for everyone. Looks high end but has very average pricing. Check it out

Noisy place and we were a party of four seated near the kitchen door. What is it with these places giving you the worst table and if you don't complain, the table is yours. All entrees came out warm to cold like they had been...More

Description
J. Paul’s is Washington’s quintessential turn of the century American Dining Saloon. The J. Paul’s bar in Georgetown is itself a 100 year old mahogany shotgun bar, built by the Brunswick Balke Coolander Company and was previously housed in a grand saloon in the Chicago stockyards. Many will swear over their scotch that Al Capone himself bellied up to that very bar. Antique brass elevator doors from New York’s Waldorf Astoria frame the back dining room.

A few short blocks from the Potomac River, in the heart of fashionable Georgetown, the original J. Paul’s has become an institution. Every day, politicians, journalists, artists, business people and Washington personalities share tables with students, tourists and ex-Pats in the nation’s capital. Don't miss out on a visit to this DC institution!
