i've been dining at mama ayesha's calvert cafe since the late 60s and it only improves with age, even though mama ayesha has now passed away, as has the restaurant's formerly regular famous diner, white house correspondent, helen thomas, who used to hold court there every night. nevertheless the food has held its own over the years while the ambience... Went here with spouse and daughter after a day of conference for me and shopping for them. Casual and laid back. Service was somewhat quirky but not in a bad way. Menu was pretty typical Middle Eastern. Handled spouse's gluten/soy issues gracefully. Pace of food/service moderate. Quality of food good, quantity on the moderate to low side. This is not... More

We tried several dishes here. Overall, the food was very good. I especially liked the menzalah (eggplant with beef) and the falafel. I thought prices were reasonable. I would go gladly eat here again,

The decor and service are great. The food is tasty and well presented but sadly way overpriced especially for the main courses. I went home hungry although I'm not a big eater.

We made reservations for a family birthday dinner. Service staff was nice and seated us well. Food quality was very OK, nothing that I would put near the top of a Mediterranean restaurant short list. Portions were surprising small and I didn't feel there was much value relative to similar restaurants. Meat was semi-tough and few pieces of chicken were... More

The food was awesome. Had lamb shank and beans. The appetizer mazza are also great. The seating space is very nice. The service was excellent and the staff kept checking up with us.

The oldest Arabic restaurant in the district per their employees. Delicious and authentic middle eastern cuisine. The service was polite and efficient. The appetizers entrees desserts and Arabic coffee were beautifully presented. In our party of five no one walked away disappointed and would highly recommend this restaurant on Calvert right next to the Duke Ellington memorial bridge.

We enjoyed our delicious dinner here tonight. We had a falafel appetizer that was very fresh with a little kick to it. Very good. We also had the main eggplant fish and mixed grilled meats. The eggplant was flavorful and delicious. The best was the grilled mixed meats. Combination of chicken lamb and beef. All were perfectly tender and tasty.

Mama Ayesha has gotten it righ. We ordered small plates (Lebanese style) and each one was the best we've had. We are from a midwest city with a strong Lebanese population and this is better than anything there. The Harateen (Helen's salad) is a great combination of tomatos, pickled onions, goat cheese and parsley and cilantro. Mama's is a neighborhood... More

With out-of-town guests, had a variety of wonderful items and cordial service. We have always found this to be a reliable place to have a great meal.
