Zucchini flowers, dates with prosciutto and spinach salad (huge, so split it) recommended for appetizers. For main course recommend the salmon, braised sea bass and the gnocchi with pork sausage ragu. Decent wine list with lots of classic Italian. Service can be spotty due to kitchen and crowd but when we were there last it was exceptional.

Words cannot begin to describe the dreadful service at this venerable Washington institution. My friends and I ordered the family tasting menu . . . three apps, three entrees. etc. The first two apps showed up together. We had to ask for serving utensils and waited five minutes for the third app to arrive with the server explaining that the... More

Had a very pleasant lunch dining outside under an umbrella. The wait staff were knowledgeable and pleased to be of help. Really enjoyed the warm calamari salad-done to perfection.

Roberto and his crew still make magic in the kitchen. Enjoyed the meatballs, carbonara, pizza, calzone, and all the goodies that were on the menu. Make sure to get the fresh made focaccia.

Two of us got the prix fix menu and enjoyed it. The octopus risotto with a tangy tomato sauce was one of the best dishes I can remember. And the Parmesan cheese grated right at the table was a nice touch. Service was very good. Not too loud.

Lovely dining space with artistic flourishes. Restaurant week allowed for appetizer, entree and dessert to be selected from the entire menu. Pretty generous considering the regular prices. Starters for us included prosciutto w/burrata and honey (very big serving) and eggplant parmesan; entrees were veal saltimbocca and pappardelle with wild boar ragu, and dessert was a panna cotta w/sour cherries and... My husband and I had dinner at Al Dente on New Year's Eve. This was our third time there and we were not disappointed. I had the grilled branzino with spinach and my husband had the rigatoni with pancetta in a cream sauce. The wines recommended with our dinners were also excellent choices. One of my favorite dishes is the pasta... More

Al Dente has a unique menu rich of Italian items, with homemade pasta as main attraction. Pizza is also available, but quality of the pizza can be disappointing as the tend to change "pizzaiolo" with less experienced one.

Roberto Donna, who's been cooking around the DC area for decades, has come up with a friendly, interestingly modern looking, neighborhood Italian restaurant that is light on the red stuff and heavy on real Italian food. Staff is responsive and welcoming, food is fresh and appealing, space is bright. You can eat a lot or a little, get a pleasant... More

I've wanted to try this place for quite some time and finally found myself nearby at lunch. I knew they had a three course lunch special (limited choices, but looked good) so finally gave it a try. It was quite good. This was a weekday (Monday) so it was not crowded. The wait staff was young but attentive. The menu,... More
