I went to Hoban's on a quiet early weekday afternoon and there were only around 25 people at and around the bar, but we were all taken care of and the bartender was friendly to each of us. This was not the case with all our excursions that day so it was refreshing. The atmosphere is subdued and quiet so... More

Our large party of 11 enjoyed a cool evening on the patio recently. The wait staff, especially the hostess, was exceptionally pleasant and accommodating. They provided good recommendations, especially about the drinks, and raved about the Chicken Pot Pie. Our party tried a number of sandwiches and burgers and the Pot Pie and Irish Stew, and each was just fine... More

I liked it. I swung in one night when on a business trip. The service was frantic, but good. I had the chicken pot pie, which was good, but not great. I would go back!

I have only sent one meal back in my life (the day I got engaged in 1995). Last night marked the second. The mashed potatoes quite literally tasted like the smell of the inner workings of a dairy farm and the "medium" steak was leather. Meal #2 - steak was raw and potatoes contained a 12 inch square chunk of... More

Came with 4 baguette slices, wouldn't even cover 3. Ridiculous. Only one waiter for outside seating.

Popped in for a post run breakfast. Was nice enough. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Large portions. $45 for Irish breakfast, omelette, coffee and 2 lattes.

Had a small lunch break with a group of co-workers, on a buisness travel to DC. Mybe due to the jetlage, maybe it was the Sunday atmosphere, but overl all it was a bit gloomy. The beer's where OK, as expected from an Irish pub, but the food (sandwich and salad's mainly) was medicure or even less.

The food was great. My husband had the shepherd's pie and I had the bavarian pretzel and spinach/pear salad. The cheese dip that was with the Bavarian Pretzel was a little thin but it did have a wonderful flavor. Our waiter, Gabriel, was not very good. Thankfully the guy bussing tables was excellent.

Description
James Hoban's proudly offers guests a modern day taste of Ireland. We have endeavored to bring to Washington a flavor of today's Ireland, with a look that presents our most cherished traditional aspects yet also displays modern Ireland's strong European culinary influences. But while Great Irish cuisine comes naturally at James Hoban's, a very memorable dining experience is about more than the food. It's when the warm host, witty bartender, and savvy waiter treat you like family. It's the live music, the strong drinks, and the great company, all in our nation's capital. Stop by for a pint or a plate and experience what has been called a "neighborhood gem" and "warmth in the heart of Dupont."
