It's not every day that you get to enjoy a large beer in a former (300 yr old) gunpowder cellar. The food is average and perhaps a bit pricey but the portion size is decent (I got the pork schnitzel). Picture below: 1 vs 1/2 litre stein of the house beer

I loved the ambient of this place but the prices are too high. Also, my friends ordered some soups which were supposed to be in the bread bowl, but they didnt get it like that.

The food has improved since our last visit. The prices are not cheap, but the quality and quantity are fair. Great service, and of course a unique atmosphere so worth going. Soup in the bread bowl is recommended.

A bit hard to find, but when you do, the building looks amazing inside and out, good atmosphere, great food, huge portions and quick service. Will return if visiting Tartu again.

An old gun powder cellar that is now one of the best known pub-style restaurants in Estonia. Cellar is built into the old moat and historical fort. Despite the name (cellar) it is tall construction that acommodates beer restaurant

We decided to have a drink in the pub with the highest ceiling in the world. The venue is indeed impressive. The portions are huge, a "small" beer is half a liter for only 3 euro. The pub was very noisy due to beerpong tournament. The benches where you sit are very uncomfortable - but then again, it's a pub.... More

This former gunpowder-cellar has for years been a well-loved restaurant that offers cozy atmosphere, tasty food and some very good beer. Worth paying a visit.
