It was a sudden decision of ours to visit a place in Pécs. It’s located in a hidden place up on the hill. Both external and internal it looks stunning, like a castle.
Waiters are incredibly polite and helpful, they help with choosing food, they give a advice.
We waited a few minutes for both starters and mains, one of the shortest waiting time for this quality ever.
Mushroom cream soup is to die for, panco-fried chicken with smashed potato also. Nothing to complain about.
Reasonable prices, I would recommend this place for everyone.

This spot was recommended to us by a local and as usual, those recommendations are most worthy ones! If you want to eat traditional Hungarian cuisine, especially if you are lover of wild animals' meat, then you must come here. As we saw, it is the only typical Hungarian restaurant near the center of Pecs with this offer. Not only the food is great, but the prices are reasonable, and the environment is incredible: they have terrace with views over the town and it is places on the hills! It is also not so touristy, we only met lots of Hungarian eating out here.

Having read the fantastic reviews, we were very much looking forward to our late afternoon lunch in Bagolyvár. It is a huge restaurant, probably catering for tourist groups. The view is nice, but not to the nicer side of Pécs. There were only very few guests (maybe at two other tables), but it was on a weekday and late afternoon. We had to wait more than 40 minutes for our order to arrive, which was unexpected with so few guests and so many idle, chatting waiters around. The fish plate consisted of pieces of fish crackling (which it definitely wasn’t), a slice of fried pike (inedible) and catfish stew (it was not too bad). We also had beef cheek, which was very good and soft, but the accompanying dill-cottage cheese noodles were not, and they were cold by the time they reached our table. Service was not really welcoming and terribly slow.

Martin's day, the house was almost full, there were six of us. The waiter brings the glasses in parts, forgetting one by one, not a good sign. He takes the dinner order in his head, 3 starters, 6 main courses, I already thought that it wasn't going to work: I was right, after two minutes he comes back saying he forgot something. Ok, 3 starters arrive, fish fry a bit greasy, soup ok.
4 of the main dishes arrive, we wait for the goose dish ordered by one of the couples, but it doesn't arrive, we start eating so the food doesn't get cold. Well, it won't, the 14e ft foie gras arrives cold. The waiter comes and goes, after a few minutes he notices that only four of us got food, he indicates that the plate will arrive "immediately", while he takes the liver back to warm up. It was about a quarter of an hour straight away, by which time the rest of us had finished. The foie gras was overcooked, the cherry custard underneath was bone dry, the only part that went well was the fruit garnish, grade 3/10.
The hanger's "Brassoi" is an overcooked, so inedible mirelit fish slice, with mirelit potatoes, 2/10.
Wellington goose breast chewy, 4/10.
Interestingly - perhaps due to hunger - the people who ate it liked the dish.
The icing on the cake is the payment, the waitress arrives, "the cash register is broken, I can tell you the total, believe it or not, 82e ft" - we believed it, we paid, but it is guaranteed that we will not come in the future.
I admire those who give this place a better rating, apparently this is normal business, not a daily mishap. Good food photos, marketing, large portions of food, this is what Hungarians need, who want to eat something delicious at a normal price, and they should come down to the Mediterranean region.

I felt not welcome at all as a foreign woman of 62 years old allone. I was ordered where to sit on an almost empty terras where I just wanted to have a drink. Earlyer the afternoon I had to wait more than 2,5 hours before it was exaxtly 14.00 hours, the check-in time.
I had to leave my B&B this morning at 10.00 and outside was 35 degrees C. The lady in charge had no mercy. They just wanted me to eat in that time alyhough I was not hungry and I was longing to get my luggage save and having a cool room.
When I endly could check im, she said nothing than: you have to pay your bill!
This evening I had dinner. The food was a kind of farmers plate, no taste at all, I must have ordered wrong I guess. I took ages before I could ask for a water and a refill, they jyst ignored me. The big tables with more guests were much more interesting I guess. Even though my money is good, I feel miserable by the treatment of this unhospitable people. I would not even treat a dog like this. Never again!

This is an overall very good place to dine at. There is enough parking spots in the garden so no issue arriving by car. When you enter the restaurant, it has a special atmosphere with spacious interieur. Food was delicious and service was very kind. The view from the terrace was spectacular. The only thing we did not like was the low quality cutlery.

This restaurant has an amazing view. Reserve a table if you wish to be seated in the first row. We were luck, without reservation tables only inside available.
Food was amazing, tasty and big portions. Staf was very kind and nice.

Overhyped, overpriced, unfriendly stuff. We must have been very unfortunates to find any of the good aspects of this restaurant mentioned in the receives here. You can do much better in Pecs!

We took foreign guests for lunch, partly because of the view. That was abut the best part, unless the presentation can be taken as a way of hoodwinking the customer. Two waiters to serve a clear soup is a little over the top!
But my main course was the most disapointing part. One likes to think that serving a piece of meat without a knife that can cut it is a thing of the past, but no! We were obliged to request a sharp steak knife - and the weird thing is that the restaurant did have sharp knives - the serving staff were just too lazy to provide one! Otherwise it was one of the driest "pecsenye" that I have had for a long time.
We were an omnivorous group, but it was certainly patently clear that while the restaurant paid lip service to the guest afflicted by gluten or lactose allergies/intolerance, no such courtesy was offered to the diabetic eater.
All in all, the restaurant makes much of its location and pays less attention to the quality of the food. In conversation with other locals familiar with the restaurant, there seemed to be a consensus that a second chance was also a disappointment.

Arranged as an old wine cellar (with vintage and hunting decorations), the restaurant offers a large variety of meat based special dishes, to be accompanied by a diversified wine menu . Good food and nice arrangements, as well as high servicing quality, at moderate prices.
