This is a great little restaurant that caters in Hungarian dishes and with accompanying Hungarian wines. We went back to this on our short stay as the food was simply very good and the locality to our hotel unbeaten. The host is excellent and will explain both the food and drinks options. The mixed meat starting includes 3 dishes and... More

It was our first night in Budapest and Chef Cafe was the perfect choice to feel welcomed in the city. My family and I received a warm greeting from the owner of the restaurant himself when we stepped into the restaurant. He gave us personal attention and described the dishes on the menu very well. The food was excellent and... More

Very glad that we chose this restaurant! The service we had throughout our meal was top notch, the menu was translated in many languages and the waiter could speak multiple languages to accommodate for the many (at least 4) that were present when we were - very impressive! The traditional food from start to finish was outstanding! Everything tasted amazing... More

Such a great place - the most friendly owner you could find, great service and incredible food. I support the earlier reviewer's recommendation of the deer stew, but everything was great. It's the only place we've revisited on our entire trip, going back tonight for the final night of our holiday - a great way to end. NOTE: bookings required

This restaurant was very close to our hotel and we fancied traditional Hungarian food. The owner, who served us, was friendly and welcoming. The food was freshly cooked and good. The cheeseboard at the end of our meal was ok, a little bland for our taste as we prefer strong cheese. We found the owner slightly pushy which is why... More

We found this restaurant without recommendation, just by walking around this area and we were in for a really pleasant surprise!. The restaurant is close to the river and main metro stations and very easy to find. The decoration is cosy and welcoming. The service was excellent both by the young waiter with attention to details and by the older... More

We visited this restaurant on our first night in Budapest. It was the highest rank close to where we were at the time. It is in a good location near the Danube and the restaurant is very reasonably priced (around £50 for two people, 3 courses with beer). We had a goulash soup, cold appetiser, steak with duck liver, deer... More

Staying in District V / Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube, with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica stand out as two of the finest examples of architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention and relevant to Hungary’s more recent history. If shopping is on your itinerary, then be prepared: the market squares in this area are an absolute delight, particularly during the Christmas period, but even throughout the year you’ll find the latest trends in the shops on Vaci Utca.
