Cute little restaurant with a homey atmosphere. The menu is on a chalk board on the wall and whatever you choose it will be a hearty home cooked meal that your Hungarian Granny could have prepared. The prices were reasonable and the service very friendly. I can only recommend.

Yes I know it was a sunday night quite late on, 7.30ish and this seemed to be last chance saloon for food. Lady spoke quite good english and asked if we wanted a menu. Sat down menus in front of us. Ordered camembert cheese which came with rice and a jam like sauce. Fine. Then out came our Hungarian chicken... More

Typical Hungarian foods, usually well served. However the place itself has a bit of cooking oil smell, which is disturbing a bit. Also possibility to take away, which is good.

If you want to experience homestyle casual and absolutely delicious food, this is the place to go. All local patrons, no tourists so you know you've got the real deal. Was recommended to me by one of the proudest Hungarians in the world so again, you know this place will hit the spot. Everything we ordered was fantastic and in... More

Good start for long weekend in Budapest. Busy place during lunch time and not so many seats. Food comes quickly: gulasch was excellent and roasted pork had a ot of garlic. Prices are okay, atmosphere is very good.

Even if it is apparently quite known to the turists, I think it represents the perfect place where to try some real local cuisine. The dishes are abundant and the price is really low. Maybe is not the fanciest place in Budapest but for that there are Michelin restaurants. It represents perfectly the place where to try a real Gulash... More

We picked this restaurant after trying Lanchid Sorozo a few doors from Ildiko's Kitchen. At Lanchid Sorozo they tried to give us a very small table next to the toilets. I couldn't avoid noticing that all Hungarian customers had decent tables while foreign couples were on small incovevient tables - and most of the restaurant was empty. We left and... More

The food is quite delicious and the service is fast. It's quite cheap and the decoration is a bit traditional.

Cheap and awsome traditional hungarian food! The waitress is really kind and the variety of options is great as well.

Went for supper with a bunch of friends. We ordered mostly traditional Hungarian dishes and they were excellent--really tasted home cooked. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant is small looks rather rustic but serves great food at great prices--a real gem in downtown Budapest for a cozy and simple lunch or supper. Highly recommend for great value

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighbourhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
