I visited here with my friend who loves coffee and has had plenty of experience drinking it! The drinks were lovely and the cafe looks amazing with all the wood and the nautical feel. The lady who served us was lovely and didn't mind we'd turned up 20 minutes from closing (we may have got lost!). Definitely one to visit... More

Delicious food, good choices and well presented. A very clean restaurant with courteous staff. Due to being out of the main city location it was not crowded and we were seated and served without waiting. We ate here on 2 occasions and enjoyed them both, this tucked away venue I would highly recommend.

The name of this cafe has changed and now has a nautical theme, but is in the same location. Came in here just before we had to leave for the airport and it was a perfect experience to round off a great trip! Ordered 2 lemonades which were made from fresh fruit and absolutely delicious. The hot chocolates were was... More

I was staying just around the corner from here so decided to pop in. I was impressed by the choices available and ordered a hot chocolate with candy topping. After quite a wait, the waitress brought me one with marshmallows - which I don't eat. I pointed out to her that I hadn't asked for these and before I could... More

We came here based on the reviews from when it was Barbar, we weren't really disappointed as they still do the lemonades and hot chocolates. We each had a lemonade which really was very nice and fresh, and at a good price too. We had a sandwich too, again freshly made and very nice! The place has a nice atmosphere... More

I had to come and rereview this place since I could see many recent reviews saying that the reviews that this place received in the past, were overrated. Please take notice, that the old "hot chocolate-lemonade" place that BARbar cafe & chocolate used to be, and what the majority of older reviews are written about, has been changed a new,... More

Had a great mangosmoothie and a great piece of cherry cake. The service was very charming and all around atmosphere is really relaxing. I recommend this if you need a relaxing and refreshing break.

Description
Located in the most peaceful part of District V in a small side street of Vaci Utca (Papnovelde utca 3.), BARBar Cafe & Chocolate is THE BEST chocolateria in this town! The owners, a young couple named Viki and Tomi, are very enthusiastic about the cafe and their aim is to make the guests utterly at home and relaxed in their cafe. The philosophy behind it is: using only high-quality ingredients for the preparation of coffees, lemonades and chocolates. For the chocolate drinks they buy real Belgian Callebaut chocolate (dark 70%, milk 47% or white 28% chocolate pastilles and not powder that is sued in most other Budapest cafes). The freshly made lemonade drinks (in ajam jar) are very refreshing on a sultry summer day. You can also have snacks, should you feel peckish: try the various spreads (aubergine spread, Italian pesto, spiced tomato cream). BARBar Cafe has laid-back atmosphere with warm colors and creative furnishing (refurbished Singer sewing machines serve as tables).

Staying in District V / Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube, with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica stand out as two of the finest examples of architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention and relevant to Hungary’s more recent history. If shopping is on your itinerary, then be prepared: the market squares in this area are an absolute delight, particularly during the Christmas period, but even throughout the year you’ll find the latest trends in the shops on Vaci Utca.
