Visited on a saturday evening. Was the perfect choice on a freezing night in Budapest. As it is close to the sights in the castle, it makes it the perfect ending of an all Hungarian experience. The restaurant has a warm atmosphere with an interior that takes you back in time. The waiters are all very knowledgable and friendly and... More

This is a must. Restaurant located on the Buda side of the city. Awesome atmosphere, great service and great menu. Love, love, loved the goulash! We also had a recommended shot of apricot schnapps.

We had to wait at least 20 minutes before the waiter finally took our order. The service was routine and cold. They obviously didn't care much about us. I can't say that we were served something special but the prices were higher than in other places. Truly disappointed!

Went here for dinner one night and booked in advance. The restaurant serves traditional Hungarian food and is located near the fishermans bastion. We were staying at the ritz on the other side and actually walked all the way over and it really wasn't that far. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is very cosy. We ordered a Hungarian... This was the first restaurant we ate in after arriving. They had great knowledge of gluten free and the food is hearty and honest and really tasty. Lovely staff and very reasonable.

There are so many restaurants to pick from in a foreign country. It is near impossible to pick one without help from a native. Thanks to our wonderful guide, Robert from Gabriella's Private Tours of Budapest we were introduced to this bistro. The food was delicious, the atmosphere is quite friendly and bathrooms are clean😊!! We had the Chestnut soup... More

My boyfriend and I popped into this Bistro after seeing a recommendation on tripadvisor. It was a delight to sit down in this cosy Bistro after a chilly walk around the castle district. The wine was lovely and the staff were friendly. I had the goulash and it was delicious. Good value, and handy wifi. Would recommend this place!

Pest-Buda is located on the ground floor of a baroque house in the medieval castle district. Until 1900, the building functioned as an inn, its ground floor housing a pub or a restaurant, and three bedrooms on each of the upper floors. The world changed, the inn became a residential building but the pub stayed, or more precisely, transformed into a restaurant.Around the sixties and the seventies, it was still considered a place of good fame. When it became vacant in 2010, our team took over the place and began developing the new concept of Pest-Buda.We decided that our bistro should feature a simple Hungarian home-cuisine-like approach and that we should show how this can be done in an outstanding, state-of-the-art way, with a short but seasonal menu. We are not trying to renew it or deconstruct it, venturing into molecular gastronomy, but instead by offering excellent stews, grilled sausages, french fries and flamed pies straight out of the oven.As simple as this sounds, this might be the greater of the two challanges. Bringing forward the best beef stew in the world is an enormous challange. It takes a long time to achieve this and we have much work ahead us, but we are already on the right track concerning grilled sausages and the oven-baked flamed pies.

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighbourhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
