Absolutely perfect. Not just the food was amazing, but the hospitality as well. The waitress and the sommelier was knowledgeable and made our evening.

We visited as a couple for dinner on early January and had the best meal we've had in Budapest so far. The atmosphere is modern and cool, the staff extremely friendly and the sommelier was so helpful and keen to ensure that we tried the Hungarian wines we would like the most. The wine list by the glass was extensive, and the bottle list was wide and good value too. The food was inventive and delicious - we had the five course tasting and wished we'd had the seven course menu! There were amuses bouche and petits fours, and we left full and happy. The onglet in particular was tender and had amazing flavour - and the seaweed amuse bouche was a standout for me. Definitely go if you can!

Without trying to sound like a pretentious idiot, our plan is to have a fine dining experience in each city we visit. This restaurant did not disappoint! Hungarians may not be renowned for their humour and customer service, however they were superb. The 5 course tasting menu was plenty - and we would recommend the wine tastings (local) which really brought out the flavour in the dishes. Previously a Michelin starred restaurant, we would absolutely recommend this to someone seeking a local Hungarian fine dining experience that doesn’t break the bank!

I really loved my lunch at Mak; I had salmon with fermented cucumber and polenta, and a chocolate-plum-hay dessert. Really interesting concept, wonderful execution, superb quality bistro food. Clearly a lot of thought and inspiration goes into the conception of the menu. 4 stars only because of the uneven quality of service: some servers were excellent and very professional, others should definitely put a bit more effort into being more cheerful and kind. These little things go a long way, and would definitely be welcome to improve the atmosphere and make the restaurant a really hip and cool place.

We had the business lunch option with three courses. The food was at the standard that would be expected at a fine dining restaurant but I was especially impressed with the dessert which was an oat crumble with blackberry mousse and honey icecream. The highlight for us however was the wine selection and the sommelier's expertise and willingness to assist. We described the types of wines we wanted including flavour palates and the sommerlier delivered exactly what we wanted.
The interior of the restaurant felt warm and welcoming and the whole vibe of the restaurant felt easygoing despite the food being fine dining.

We had an awesome meal for lunch at Mak. We tried the two course lunch menu (mackerel, risotto for me) and it was excellent. Definitely worth trying out.
The service however was slow. We did arrive later (managed to get a walk in table) and it was nearly full but thinning out. One particular waitress was really unfriendly all through service and also spoilt our lunch.

With a friend I was in Mak two Tuesdays ago. We had the 7 courses way with wine: if you go for dancing then live everything until the end! What can I say: EXCELLENT. My best : the cabbage "millefoglie" served with the beef onglet, the perch and the desserts all (the plum pickle with the chocolate is orgasmic!!!!!). Like italian I've some problems with some type of wines: in Mak I've discovered how fantastically the hungarian Tokaj matches with smoked fresh water fishes. I cook for working so I know a bit what I'm speaking about. The staff all was perfect and very kind, I was so enthusiastic in the end I wanted to marry straight one of the ladies....I reccomend the place without doubts. Luca A.

Visited Mák over the weekend. Chose the 5 course with the wine pairing. We are both pescatarians and they tailored the menu for our dietary needs. The food was delicious as were the wines. Gorgeous staff, who looked after us without being intrusive. Highly recommend!!

We had the 5 course menu with wine pairing, everything was amazing. The wine complimented the food great and they talked about the wine so that you actually understands. Our friend had a birthday and they placed a candle in the cake.
Price was really good for the experience that you got. Will be back

Mak is a gem of a casual fine dining spot nestled on the Pest side of the Danube River, just a stone's throw from the iconic Széchenyi Chain Bridge in Budapest. Its interior, with exposed brick walls and high ceilings, strikes a perfect balance between maintaining the building's historic allure and offering a modern, relaxed dining atmosphere. The service was exceptionally friendly and attentive, ensuring a delightful experience. The restaurant serves both sparkling and still filtered water, constantly refilled throughout our meal. As for beverages, I opted for the local wine pairing, while my husband enjoyed a selection of homemade juices and fermented drinks. Both choices were outstanding and reasonably priced. The menu focuses on regional ingredients transformed into dishes that are both flavorful and light. Accommodating my request for a pescatarian option was effortlessly handled. We were impressed by the presentation and the dishes' well-balanced flavors, finding the cuisine to be inventive yet approachable. Our dining experience was further enhanced by a selection of delicious local spirits to round off the meal. We appreciated the restaurant's commitment to showcasing local cuisine and ingredients with a modern flair.

Myself and my husband had an absolutely amazing experience on Friday 17th June. We had the 12 course tasting menu accompanied by the wine pairing. Each course was described beautifully by very knowledgable staff, and the wine expertly paired, enhancing each course. The flavours were amazing and it was a truly superb dining experience in very relaxed, informal surroundings. We would highly recommend it.

We thoroughly enjopyed the 12 course tasting menu with wine pairing. The food looked and tasted amazing, but what we most enjoyed was the friendly and informative discussions with the sommelier regarding the choice of wines - this made the evening for us. Excellent value given the quality - this is the place to splash out for your best meal in Budapest.

Dear.Lucy, thank you so much for this amazing review. The gentleman who served you is not only our sommelier but also our restaurant manager, Balazs who will be extremely pleased to read your very kind words. Quality (not too pushy) entertaining as well as serving amazing food is his passion just like it is for all of us. So by appreciating our work you made our day and we thank you for that. We can’t wait to see such wonderful guests again in MÁK restaurant as soon as possible :)

Had a fantastic dinner here, food was outstanding! A fantastic gourmet experience, while remaining unpretentious. The menu felt crafted to the time of year , and showed off Hungarian food fantastically!
Alongside this , the wine pairings were excellent. The sommelier was fantastic in explaining and discussing the wines and their origin. It was a fantastic touch that all the wines were Hungarian , providing a interesting journey through the world of Hungarian wine!
Overall, we had a fantastic experience, our only wish would have been for the courses to be brought out slower, we felt the early courses were slightly rushed. Other than this , I can’t recommend this restaurant enough!

The food was delicious, but the service was a slight problem, as they didn't come ask if we wanted more to drink, and for the person who had the winemenu, it was quite a question, if they remembered the next glass. The servers were nice and polite though.
The bigger problem was, that they didn't have in stock, the items mentioned on the drinksmenu or online. A group of us wanted the juicemenu, but that did not exist and we asked for a Hendricks and tonic as it was on the menu, but they came with a different gin, and didn't have any Hendricks at all.
The chairs were very uncomfortable
