We tried Onyx out for dinner. We arrived early but it soon filled out. We could choose from a four or six course menu; we chose the four course meal with an additional local duck Appetiser. The duck was excellent as was the trout, lobster and crab dish. Service was generally good but did lack a bit of freshness and enthusiasm. Overall though a nice experience but not the best meal we had in Budapest.

We booked this restaurant prior to our visit to Budapest noting its Michelin status.
On arrival the restaurant was packed and given its central location not surprising.
The food was great starting from bread basket to the starter, mains and desert!!! The amuse bouche wonderful and a lovely linguine stew followed by pork and Mille feuille . We we’re treated to further petit fours which came presented with dry ice!!
There was some unusual textures in the food and the service was attentive and professional. I am glad to have tried it!

We have eaten in a lot of very high end restaurants and this was one of the best. We opted for the outside the borders menu and they were very good at accomodating some dietary requirements. Particularly liked their paired drinks with some additional options for more rare wines without having to sign up to a full “prestige” type package.
Restaurant itself was also very nice and very central so easy to get to.

As a person who frequently goes to Michelin star restaurants, I find Onyx as a michelin two star restaurant unpersuasive .
1. Breads are cold, I am wondering how long have my bread been left out since it is out from the oven.
2. The service are genuine and earnest, the servers are really nice.
3. The food are normal, nothing special. (Is it because I order the Hungarian menu instead of the international menu) I expect things a lot more creative and more flavorable in a michelin two star restaurant. The goose liver is nice though, their signature dish is good.
4. The decorations are fine, it is not too old fashioned while keeping a contemporary style.
5. The price is relatively cheap comparing to ordinary Michelin two star restaurants. It is about 100 euro per person

We were looking forward to visiting this place, but sadly the experience wasn't nearly as good as what we hoped. It felt like style over substance. The decor is nice and the plating is impressive, but the flavor for the most part just wasn't there. The service was also not on par as some of the other restaurants we visited in Budapest and the price was much higher as well.

We're totally blown away, Onyx was an extraordinary degust experience. Our choice was the "within borders" menu with the duck liver pate extra and the wine pairing.
The tomato and the duck liver pate dishes were to die for, and in the end the chocolate desert is hard to find words for. The wine pairing was spot on with exciting localish wines.
Next time in Budapest, we'll definitely spend another evening at Onyx.

The staff was extremely courteous but the food was not upto the mark, totally unlike what one would expect in a Michelin Star resteraunt. I have been to many Michelin Star resteraunts but none as bad!!
They charged 45,000 FR ( Euro 140 per person (drinks extra) and failed to impress at every step. The quantity of the food was inadequate and every dish (including the dessert had onions). We had to go and have dinner again after this disappointing meal. There was a lot of pomp and show to depict the Metro theme, hoping they had put in the same thought in making the food taste as good!!
Please try the other Michelin star resteraunts in the city and skip this one.

This was the second visit to this Michelin-starred restaurant, so our expectations were high, but we were not disappointed by the tasting menu with the accompanying wines (a combination of Hungarian, Slovak and Serbian wines). Although not all outstanding, the wines were nice and perfectly suited for each dish on the menu. The staff was very polite and contributed to the excellent experience.

I wanted to do something special on American Thanksgiving during our trip to Budapest and thought the communal vibes would fill the void of missing out on traditional turkey dinner with friends and family. This was an awesome experience.
I made a mistake and thought our reservation time was two hours later, and the owner of the restaurant was kind enough to call me and ask me if I was coming. He held up dinner long enough for us to rush over from our hotel.
The courses were creative and we made some friends with the people sitting nearby.
My partner did the premium wine parings and I did not the nonalcoholic ones and we were both really happy with our choices. I think this restaurant is deserving of both Michelin stars and compared to other Michelin options in Budapest this place is right up there at the top.

From the moment we walked through the doors we knew we were in for a fantastic dining experience. We were warmly welcomed and after receiving a welcome glass of Onyx's own sparkling we were provided some history of the Onyx restaurant, from here we were seated at the large communal table to begin our immersive evening. Each course was presented with detail and you could understand the story and pride that the Onyx team take in creating each dish and could see how one dish connects to the next.
We also selected the wine package and each paring you could see was thoughtfully selected and paired perfectly with the dish. I definitely recommend heading to Onyx for a truly wonderful and unique dining experience. I look forward to going back again in future.

The sobriety of the entrance hall and the announcement of a collective table surprise a little but a warm and friendly welcome quickly sets the tone of the evening.

The whole menu and experience was a masterpiece, with outstanding service and a lovely dining space. Both the alcoholic and non-alcoholic pairings were wonderful. The execution of the METRO/METROPOLIS concept was perfect and the whole menu felt like an adventure and like home at the same time. ( I guess that is what Budapest is to me.) I would absolutely recommend this place, it was not just a dinner, it was truly a journey! Thank you again for this incredible night, cant wait to be back!

I had an extraordinary experience at Onyx Muhely – a culinary journey seamlessly spanning the past, present, and future. What an amazing experience with the 11 course dinner. The food was of outstanding quality and uniqueness served artistically, with mind and taste bud blowing combinations of flavours and textures, the wines exquisite, the "workshop" venue was simply beautiful and the communal table concept was superb as we got to spend the night and chat away with others. The service and restaurant team went out of their way for us to enjoy every second of our dinner.
A truly amazing and soooo special. We had a such memorable and wonderful evening!!! A huge thank you to thr Onyx Muhely team and staff.
