My wife and I had dinner at the Duke. We made reservation and were shown a table outside which we had asked for but later moved inside due to the wind which of course the restaurant can do little about. After waitng for our food for 1,5 hours we were ready to just leave and at that moment the food... More

Tasty food as always. The staff allowed us in to eat in the reserved area, as there wasn't any other room. Quick service and good food

The oldest pub in NZ... you visit Russell and don't visit?! Never! They could serve warm, flat beer and you'd still have to pop in. Luckily though, they serve fizzy cold beer and a range of other delicious beverages. The verandah is a perfect place to sip on said tasty drink. More tea Vicar? Yes please!

First dinner after a 6 day yacht charter. Completely random choice and we were so glad we decided on the Duke. Well pitched menu meant our family of 5, including 3 kids aged 8-12 all satisfied with a simpler fish and chip option, or a more sophisticated choice for adults. The hapuka was beautiful. A gorgeous setting on the waterfront... More

It is definitely worth a trip to Russell for lunch or dinner at The Duke of Marlborough. This grand institution has great food and service but has lost nothing of it's charm. It could so easily have become a place relying on it's fabulous beach front location and heritage building to merely cater for the transient tourist scene... BUT I... More

Lovely spot, but didn't live up to expectation. One assumes that this is not the case for others as it was very busy. We ordered whitebait sandwich and their "famous hamburger". Neither would have been at all impressive in a cheap cafe, let alone in such a beautiful setting. Disappointing.

As is tradition we stopped at the Duke of Marlborough for dinner on our first day in Russell, managed to get a table on the foreshore. Good music from a lady pushing out some great tunes whilst the first beer went down. Food was good a bit pricey the steak but cooked as I requested and served hot which was... More

Group of 4 had lunch here, we had burgers and fish & chips, everyone was very happy with how they tasted. Nice setting too.

A day trip to the Duke of Marlborough Hotel on our annual family holiday has been a tradition for around 10 years now. Sadly (for them), it won't be anymore. This time last year, we planned our trip one morning and phoned ahead to make a booking, requesting a table on the deck for our group of 10 people. After... More

So good the first time we ate here twice! French waiter was extremely helpful. Location excellent and ambience terrific. Was a bit windy though so needed a sweater. Reasonable prices, quick service but definitely recommend making a reservation as was busy both nights we visited.
