A nice chilled atmosphere with a couple of pool tables and an outside area. Only came for drinks which were a little more expensive than I thought they would be.

We stopped here for a few drinks. We had already eaten elswhere, but saw the meals coming out. They looked pretty good, so we will try this place out next time for a feed. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was relaxing.

Great food at reasonable prices, with great pub atmosphere. There are two parts to the venue, one is more pub style, with some seats overlooking the street. If you prefer a quieter, more intimate experience, there is another section that allows for that.

It wasn't cozy and everywhere were empty glasses and leftover food. We waited approx. 30 minutes for a bowl of fries and the waitresses were friendly but definitely overextendend :(

My wife and popped into the Whaler for a well deserved drink one afternoon after a fabulous Whale Watch tour in Kaikoura. The pub was cool and the beer was cold; the staff and customers were very friendly. The day was hot and they had the windows open to the street and we just drank and watched the world go... More

The food was good, and the portions were large. We found that just ordering the entrée and not the main would have sufficed for us. We had to leave a bunch of French fries because there was so much food. I had the mussels which were quite good and my wife had the ribs which were also good. It is... More

The $18.59 Porthouse steak special is a good deal. Small steak, cooked as requested. Choice of fries or mash. The restaurant is right across from the now closed Adelphi Hotel. The hotel, like many other main street businesses is closed due to quake damage. This place was untouched. Support the locals; visit Kaikoura.

We waited 80 mins for a very average Porterhouse steak. For only $18 it was not bad value. The steak was a little tough but cannot complain too much as it just your standard pub feed. The staff were friendly. Lots of little flies in there!

We had the porterhouse steak and the Market fish. It's what I'd describe as pub grub. Quality of the food and the cook wasn't in line with the price. The lady working there was lovely and very friendly; hence 3 stars not 2. Probably wouldn't go back if I'm honest.
