The Pier Hotel had been recommended to us on our first night in Kaikoura and it proved to be a great place for a casual meal. We sat inside but with views out to sea and ordered seafood chowder and a half crayfish each. A perfect meal for aenjoying in a seaside location on a fine summer's day. The staff... More

Great spot right on the water. Good food, beer and service. Fun swing set and trampoline for the kids. We camped overnight in the parking lot in our campervan for an extra fee. Super fun.

Incredible view from this hotel, with lovely outdoor seating also. Food was great, emphasis on local seafood but still reasonably priced. We had the fish special and a half local crayfish. Both amazing! Good wine list and has been nicely renovated.

My husband & I had a lovely walk to this pub from our town accomadation. It was full of people eating and sitting outside having drinks. We got there around 830pm and was able to get some lovely food, which was served promptly by friendly staff. When asked if we wanted desert, around 930pm, we we told 'it's always possible to... More

Stopped in to grab a local meal and beer. Did not disappoint and had an interesting chat with locals about the changing seabed after the Nov 2016 earthquake.

All the food was great - but the chips were maybe the best I've had! Awesome view, too. Make sure you book! Had to wait two hours for a table on a Wednesday.

We ate here several times (after a disappointing experience at the Green Dolphin) and we all enjoyed it. There's some great local food on the menu, the portions are good and the service was friendly and efficient. The restaurant itself is clean with plenty of seating options inside and out. The best part (as parents) was a lovely little playground... More

Popped in on a busy evening but no problems to arrange the stables to fit us in- food arrived very quickly and was good basic pub food with adequate wine list and beer selection. Options to sit outside with views across to kaikoura ranges- very pleasant evening. Appears popular with locals as well always a good sign.

The Pier was recommended as an alternative to the 'priced beyond their worth' places elsewhere in Kaikoura and I wish I had found it sooner. I was nervous on arrival. It's a shabby old pub but the interior has been refurbished well and there is a clear drinking end, dining end and some outdoors. There is an unclear option between... More

We have eaten twice recently at this restaurant. The food is superb - crayfish is a must, and once you've sampled that the fresh fish options excellent. The chef has worked internationally and has produced a great menu with interesting specials of the day using local and seasonal produce. The pub and restaurant are cosy and comfortably furnished and the... More

The site is superb and undoubtedly the best outlook in Kaikoura, with panoramic vistas of the Kaikoura Ranges and sweeping views of Ingals' Bay from the bar, balcony and restaurant. Come and see for yourself. The Pier Hotel has been under new management as of 1st October 2013, so come on in and have a beer, try our menu (with fabulous desserts) made fresh each day for lunch and dinner, we would love to see you! Reservations advised for evening dining.
