We always stop at this hotel for breakfast as we make our way from Melbourne. There is usually a fire burning and great coffee. The breakfast menu seemed a little different than usual but it was great. Plenty of tables as well.

Central location in Sturt street , good quality food and reasonable prices, Staff excellent on a busy night, food arrival was quick considering number of people, seems like a popular spot.

Arrived in Ballarat late & this place was a short walk from where we were staying. My wife ordered a Beef Satay with Singapore Noodles. She was absolutely delighted with it. A decent serve & flavour in every mouthful. I had a hankering for Fish & Chips but was quite disappointed with the fish. It was very chewy like it... More

Very reasonable prices for breakfast with kids. sufficient range of choices for the kids with waffles, pancakes and scrambled eggs. Plenty of room for big groups; outdoor options available.

We had a lunch and coffee in this place. It was very good, like in Melbourne. Stuff was friendly, food was nice. It was a bit clattered inside, but they have a lot of spaces outside, so we sat there. Prices are affordable, so it is a good place for travelers. And it is in a very centre of Ballarat,... More

Fairly disappointed for breakfast. Waffles like a rock cake. The egg and bacon toastie wasn't the best either.

Description
The Golden City Hotel, formally known as Geecees, was built in 1856 and originally named the Adelphi Hotel. Since it's first opening the hotel has seen many changes including the transformation to a cafe-bar in December 1996. Overlooking the beautiful tree lined main street of Ballarat, Golden City is renowned for having one of the largest restaurants hosting around 200 tables. We no longer see ourselves as a traditional hotel, but have moved with the times to provide a comfortable, safe environment where persons of any age can enjoy a coffee, wine or beer together with good affordable food available all day. The hotel offers two beautiful event spaces of varying sizes and design and caters for anything from intimate and private gatherings to large celebrations.
