We went to Plato because our taxi driver suggested trying their great food. When we entered, the enterior was strange and pretty low-key so we didn't expect the greatest food in Dunedin, but it was! We got 4 entrees and 2 mains for the two of us and it was totally worth it. The squid, the risotto and the clams... More

Everything about this place tests your senses. Quirky but very interesting decor which could be mistaken for a hoarders hangout, fairly basic furniture. But the sever was delightful, entertaining and very knowledgable about the beers available and the menu. The chowder was big with lots of shellfish in their shells which released their flavours as they were unpacked while consuming... More

Had an excellent meal, very friendly and attentive staff, portions we found to be just the right size chowder shown, well I did help out a bit. We shared the starter and the beer brewed on site was very good.

Had a great meal here. The flounder was fantastic, shuttle flavors really stood out. The Paua was good, I found the taste quite strong in the patty as I am used to them a lot plainer. Would highly recommend for those in Dunedin.

Funky decor -lots on mid century and antique nicknacks. We were a larger group so we were alone up in the bar area- it was very special. Service was great- fish fresh with wonderful sauces, all around amazing dinner!

On a very busy night just before Christmas Plato still but great food and the fish was so fresh. Service was good but it was hard to get a drink.

Was last here a couple of years back. It's a little out of the way, it had the same wacky decor, and great food, well that's why we came back. We had the paua fritter and seafood platter for entrees, followed by the warehou and smoked sirloin for mains. All great, no room for dessert this time. Service was good,... More

Sirloin steak w/potato mash is exceptional. The flavours were all there; right across the board. Impressive, but were a bit slow to react (bringing our cake out) and the risotto appetizer was the opposite of plentiful. Great job.

Plato is not the easiest restaurant to find. It is tucked behind a pedestrian overpass which makes it very hard to see the signage. Once inside you are transported back to the 1970's in a restaurant that is filled with nick nacks and coffee/tea pots. The floors are polished concrete, the seating comfortable old chairs that are well separated from... More
