Stylish, is because they open only from 5:30pm to 7-ish. I would say the fish is fair, but chips is good. Chef does not add any salt to the chips and so you can consider how salty you want. However as it is a MTO and take-away shop, once the food are wrapped for a while, it is hard to... More

I think they are the best fish and chip i have ever had. Great vegetarian selection and the pineapple rings are to die for.

This place was busy and since it is only "Take Out", we took a 20 minute walk before picking up our food. Very tasty.

Came here based upon Tripadvisor reviews and was a bit disappointed. Ordered the cod, chips and salad. Cod was okay tasting but the coating was soggy, chips seemed cooked out of the freezer, and salad was bits of iceberg lettuce with pickles. Had better fish and chips in the Christchurch airport waiting for my misplaced luggage.

After a long trip from Catlins we just wanted to settle into our accommodation and have a takeaway of quality without eating in a restaurant as Portobello is a little off the beaten track. We could not have wished for better - fresh fish lightly battered with proper chips - absolutely delicious. The standards are high in this domain in NZ... More

Worth the wait, this is what holidays are all about. Friendly chaps are working as fast as they can to make everyone's orders. We absolutely loved this place and were happy to take a number and wait. The fish and chips were as good as any we have had before. We recommend them highly.

I had a fish burger and my partner had a piece of fish and a side of chips and scalloped potato. The burger was so fresh! all real ingredients and the fish fillet in it was nice and crunchy on the outside and lovely and flaky on the inside. Really good sized portions. My partner really enjoyed his meal also.... More

Visited whilst staying in local campsite. The place seems to get busy and the owner gets a little grumpy if he is rushed at all but overall good fish and chips just be patient for them.

We chose the elephant fish as we do not like strong tasting fish. The fish was a bit dry, which was a bit disappointing as we tried the same fish at a fish and chip shop in Greymouth and loved it. If you are after a meal that is good value for money though, this is th Place to go.

Staying at a B&B down the road we were recommended Ric's. I had the blue cod in batter and my wife, baked cod with one portion of chips.cooked freshly and tasted delicious. We really pushed the boat out and had a ginger beer and cloudy lemonade from the shop next door which turned out to cost two dollars less than... More
