Popped in with the wife when on quick stop over in Christchurch and had a lovely time. Fantastic food menu - the lamb shank with vegetables was absolutely delicious. Extremely friendly staff and nice surroundings (watching the ducks outside was rather sweet). Very much recommended.

A location next to a pond does not make up for the dated, deteriorated decor and fittings and charmless service. Best avoided in favor of other venues in the neighborhood or the central city.

We enjoyed going to this bar whilst we were staying locally in Christchurch. It was a pub type atmosphere, sport on the tv and groups of people meeting for drinks and eats. The food was ok, a bit mixed, we tried the ‘cook your own...More

Such a shame. My mother visiting from overseas really wanted to come back here after enjoying a lovey visit a few years ago on her last trip. The place had definitely deteriorated. The duck pond looked messy. The service was not good with both lamb...More

Long time customer. Used to be great but service is now poor to the extent it's often hard to get past all the bar-leaners to order a drink and then it's often even harder to be noticed by bar staff. Food also used to be...More

Description
The Brewers Arms in Merivale is a great tavern that specialises in a huge selection of quality food and drinks. It has the feel of a traditional English-style pub where you meet locals or friends for a chat, a drink and a meal and it's close to the city and to the hotels and motels on Papanui Road. The Brewers Arms is a friendly and unpretenious tavern that's perfect whether you're from out of town or a local catching up with friends. Without any obnoxious loud music or gaming machines, the ambience is inviting and there are plently of plasma screens featuring live sport. The menu goes well beyond ordinary pub fare, with an excellent of high-quality food and drinks. From light meals and snacks through to delicious stone-grill dining (including exotic fare such as kangaroo, as well as popular favourites such as Surf & Turf), there's something to suit every appetite. There are even children's meals for the little one.
