We ate dinner at the bistro. The ambiance inside is poor. It is very quiet and so sitting closely next to other tables is very awkward. The waiter was not up to par with the prices. He was not able to describe food on the menu, never gave us a wine list until we asked twice, and never asked if... More

Perhaps it was just us, but it was a little pretentious, we really enjoyed our evening and the food was fantastic. A great winery and it was refreshing to fine one that had a restaurant open in the evening. We managed to crack a few smiles and laughs from the waiting team, however a very formal approach was presented where... More

A friend who knows New Zealand well had recommended Herzog as a "must visit" during our time in the area. We decided to book on the lunchtime vineyard tour and tasting followed by lunch and were not disappointed. The tour was fairly short but very interesting and gave a good impression of the uniquely small scale of the operation here.Some... More

We are regular visitors to Herzog Bistro for lunch and dinner but our last visit for a Sunday lunch before Christmas was disappointing to say the least. The menu especially for the mains is boring and lacking in imagination. The fish of the day was a piece of Salmon perched on top of Polenta. One of the party wanted anything... More

We had dinner at Herzog's and were very disappointed. After a warm welcome and very nice entree and main course, we were completely forgotten about by the staff. They had just one waiter (the others had disappeared) and he seemed preoccupied with another table who appeared to be enjoying the degustation menu, with wines. He never returned to our table... This European-Style winery really delivers on less than common varietals from the area and puts a new spin on local classics. Their Sauvignon Blanc is much smoother than is typical, and their Methode Blush was also wonderful. If you're shooting for dinner or lunch, you'll need reservations but the tasting room was not crowded when we visited. You'll pay for... More

My husband and I stayed at the vineyard cottage with the wine lover's package during our three week honeymoon to New Zealand in November 2015 and can truly say this was the top highlight during our journey in this amazing country. This package is a very very special experience we will never forget. First, the staff, and Hans himself, are... More

Gained a last minute booking for the ala carte menu in the Bistro and were extremely impressed with the food and service. Found the wines a bit pricey but enjoyed nevertheless. I had the fish of the day which was pan seared Gurnard, good size and fabulous. The others had two entrees each which were generous and memorable for all.... More

We are regulars at Herzogs as the food is always very nice. 2 weeks ago we visited for lunch & left very disappointed. The staff on duty, weren't the usual friendly staff that had previously served us. The girl who took our orders, did not smile & her manner made me feel, that anything I asked for was too much.... The restaurant at Hans Herzog Winery was recommended to us by a friend. We were so pleased. The food was wonderful - rack of lamb and ribeye. The staff were gracious and so attentive. We had made reservations at the bistro but wanted to change to the main dining room and they accommodated us with that. The little lobby was... More
