Enjoyable lunch here on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Excellent service from the staff. Food was excellent. Salt and pepper calamari and duck croquettes. Very tasty and sufficient for lunch. Lots of quirky references to our Parliamentarians around the dining area too.

This is an iconic place and just across the Beehive. A must to visit and see how this place showcase NZ politicians.

Went to luch there today and had great calamari with handcut chips on the side. It was well cooked and the sauce that came with the Calamari was excellent.

What was interesting is the giant puppets of the their politicians hanging on the walls. This restaurant is across the street from the Parliament building. I had the deep fried calamari which was very good to eat. My friend had the soup of day ( pumpkin and curry) and another had chicken pate; both got good reviews. It was fairly... More

Busy even on a Tuesday at lunch (thankfully we had booked). Great calamari. Service very good - the little things like automatically bringing tom sauce to have with the chips etc etc. All meals at table good (tried the pate and that was lovely - would order as sharing plate for entree next time). Need to go when really hungry... More

We turned up about half an hour early had a drink then went to the bar at the appointed time to be seated, the girl behind the bar could not find our reservation but... More

Had a lovely drink in this quirky pub opposite the beehive, it was great service, interesting so we decided to come back for dinner. The food could be fantastic but is just a little off the mark. The risotto was soooo salty and the duck was very over cooked, if these little problems were rectified this establishment would rate very... More

Usually visits to the Backbencher are catching up with friends at lunch time. I hadn't been here for dinner for years and fair to say that I won't be hurrying back any time soon. On the surface there is a menu that caters for most tastes, however the quality left a lot to be desired. Two of us had fish... More

An acceptable dinner but nothing special. The ambience was good and the caricatures added a fun element, but this didn't make up for decidedly average food. Better places to eat at this price point.
