Great Curry, Great Vibes

I have been going here for years, right through from ordering the cheeky $15 student meal to sitting-in and having a slightly more dignified meal. While you can't beat their butter chicken, the rest of the menu is great as well (absolutely give their sizzling chicken tikka a go!). Staff are always lovely and the decor, while slightly strange, makes the place very warm and homely. This is my go-to curry place in Wellington for sure. Great service, great good - passes the vibe check.

Fabulous food

Great food. Service was a bit slow - we had to ask for wine glasses but that's really no big deal. Good selection of food to choose from and what we had we all enjoyed. Highly recommend the salt & pepper prawns - definitely the highlight of the meal! We had the sweet chilli potato as well - wasn't crispy as advertised but very tasty.

An Amazing Meal Experience

The atmosphere in Yellow Chilli is amazing. We were greeted by the chef Diwaker and he took good care of us. We had some Kebabs and really yummy chicken curry along with some naan bread :) During our dinner we felt really welcomed and taken care of. We will definitely go back for dinner ......

Nice food but insane wait

Went there with family on my birthday. Took an unbelievable 1.5 hrs for the food to arrive on the table! They seemed to be knocking out take-away and Uber Eats orders pretty quickly, possibly at the expense of those sitting waiting. We were eventually told that our order had been forgotten although we had asked before and not been told this. When it did arrive the food was good but we were so hungry by then that it didn't really touch the sides and we just wanted to be out of there.

Hi, thanks for your feedback. I am extremely sorry for this wait, I can understand how frustrated it is to wait that long. No excuses or valid reasons are acceptable. But honestly we always try to serve Customers as soon as possible. I am glad you like our food but apologised for this delay in service. Next time we will try our best to serve on time. Still searching for a decent Indian restaurant in Wellington. Massed produced curries that barely changed from the three mains we tried. Only difference was in the mango chicken which was particularly sweeter than the rest with nil mango in it (we described it as a curry mixed with sweet and sour) Naan average - dry and stodgy. Highlight was the onion barji. Save some money and pop to the supermarket and grab some pataks for a better flavour and much cheaper dinner

Been coming here once every couple of months for the past 2 years, ever since it was first recommended to us. We know that we can count on them to make super super yummy food every single time. Interesting flavours

One of the best restaurants I have been to in Wellington. They have a wide variety of different cuisines and all dishes are really delicious especially Tandoori Chicken and the mouth-watering Biriyani. The manager and all other Staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. I really impressed with their stunning food and service.

One of the best Indian restaurant in Wellington.

Wow what amazing food and service, after reluctantly booking an Indian restaurant and expecting the usual, yellow Chilli is a wonderful surprise. The fish dish has a most incredible flavours in the sauce that you can just dip your naan into all night. The fish is beautifully cooked and melts in the mouth. Lamb and chicken dishes were also good but Biryani were the highlight. Overall very impressed with the food and service and atmosphere. Will be back for sure

Tasty, tasty, Very Very Tasty

We went just after the posted opening time but they were shut, but… they were actually open but the sign in the door said closed and as the restaurant is down stairs we could not look in, however, we called them soon after and booked a table. There was only one couple eating in the restaurant when we arrived so didn’t think we had made the right choice. We were shown to a table of our choice by a very lovely girl called Emily. We had a lovely bottle of Red wine and chose some lovey Lamb dishes which were really good ( I have not put which dishes as it’s down to personal choice ) The phone never stopped ringing for take away orders so that says everything We really recommend you have meal here and ask for Emily to serve you :) Gra and Sandy from Devon , U.K

Terrible experience

Ordered online for pick up and was told it would be an hour wait. After arriving an hour later and waiting another half an hour, we were informed they had forgotten the order and it would be another 15 minutes. Then waited another hour. Understand a busy night and these things happen but staff were incredibly unapologetic and rude. No communication other than continuously being told it would be 5 minutes.

Disappointed that our booking had been “lost” in the system despite confirmation text and email. Anyhow got seated eventually 15 min later but pretty much ignored, had to fetch own jug of water while we waited for service. Server was just an order taker, no charisma or hospitality unfortunately. Drinks came out promptly after ordering but food took an hour to arrive which is bearable if starters could have come out earlier. Samosas were a huge lump of dough filled with chunky veg and fried in a batter rather than the correct pastry and shape, not nice at all. Onion bajis were oversized and uncooked in the middle. Poppadoms were tiny, like they were not heated to puff and form. Very dissatisfied as these are basic Indian staples which should have been cooked well. The mains were good, lamb was tender and gravies were flavoured well. Very popular take out venue with take out orders getting priority and endless stream of delivery drivers collecting from main restaurant which is disruptive to the dining experience.

New owners better than ever

Our favorite local restaurant. Always good, the new owners have elevated a good local restaurant to a great one. The obvious attention to detail from the table settings to the crockery and the quality of the dishes shows their hearts are in their work. Excellent garlic naan tops it off. I hope they continue as we would miss it. Off there again tonight.

Awesome food, great value!

Searching for great value and amazing food, served in a quaint family friendly environment? Look no further. I was struggling to find somewhere for an enjoyable family evening, but then jumped on Trip Adviser. There nestled in the top 5 of over 700 venues in Wellington is Yellow Chilli. And now having enjoyed the experience, I can confirm their place so high on this list is well and truely justified. Get there! It’s just great. We left satisfied, but not over full. And the dishes tasted fantastic!

Delicious flavor but seriously small serving

This was a take away meal. Delicious flavors, no fault there. But serving was very small, not much chicken. The naan was very small too. I have been going to this restaurant for the last 15 years. The size of serving has hugely decreased and the usually fluffy delicious naan was flat and very small. A bit disappointing tbh.

This is my personal favourite Indian restaurant in Wellington and I have been to many different Indian restaurants. Their dishes always have a delicious sauce. They also do good sizzling hot plate dishes. Their Paneer has the best spices. Also the price is good too. Highly recommend.
