One of the most missed restaurants after moving out from Auckland. Very creative Japanese food while retain its traditional culture. I just cannot complain any of the dishes I had in the past. This is a must-go restaurant every-time when I go to Auckland. Strongly recommended the beef&cheese roll, the rainbow roll, and the fresh and juicy sashimi combination.

Dinner out with a friend became a lovely affair. We had not booked ahead so had to be seated at the bar, that was the best thing that could have happened. We sat in front of the sushi chef and witnessed plate after plate of amazing sashimi and sushi being made. The menu is very traditional and offers a variety... More

Our go to places for an early dinner before a concert. Warm, welcoming and unpretentious. Food consistently excellent and well presented. Sushi and sashimi some of the best on the city, often serviced with fresh wasabi. Try the rainbow roll... My favourite.

Came here after checking tripadvisor when waiting to see a show. Should have booked as they were busy but got a table at the bar. Saw plenty of people turned away as they filled up. Menu isn't extensive but food was delicious and arrived quickly. Sake was yummy and they had a huge range to choose from. Service was good.... More

There As part of a group. Forgot our meals and pretty much didn't serve us any food until we complained. Might have been better if not set menu.

The flavours were absolutely Devine and subtle. My wife had never eaten at authentic Japanese restaurant before and was highly impressed. The highlight of the meal was the pork belly which sublime in texture and taste it just pulled apart easily and melted in the mouth A bonus is being able to share dishes

Don't be put off by the steep steps descending into Kura - you are in for a treat. This is wonderful Japanese food and not outrageously expensive, as this type of cuisine often is. The menu ranges from sushi and sashimi via udon noodles to some wonderful dishes where the 'twist' to Japanese food comes in - the Yuzu Beef... More

Visited here with a crowd, some with special food needs that were well-catered for by flexible and helpful chef and wait staff. Loved the variety, especially the vege selections. Only one bill per table made it a little difficult for our group, but not impossible, and clearly best option for the restaurant management. Access difficult for anyone with mobility restrictions.... The Kura on upper Queen Street is always great but especially as a pre-concert choice for the Civic, Town Hall and now the pop-up Globe. The food choices are excellent and the staff really helpful. The restaurant was packed on Saturday night so it was especially nice to have the staff pro-actively ask if we were going to a concert... More

Kura is modern fusion Japanese. We do all the favourites like sushi, tempura and teriyaki but sometimes with a little twist.
